Masters of the Universe Classics Feature: Huntara

Huntara_01Huntara has been at the top of my Filmation most-wanted list, and she was announced at SDCC two years ago, so this figure has been a long time coming for me. Let’s take a closer look at the March 2015 Club Eternia subscription figure: Huntara!

Huntara_02Huntara™ Bio

Real Name: Tara
Hailing from Silax, a planet in Despondos known for its accomplished hunters and trackers, Huntara quickly rose in the ranks as a top of her class. Hearing of her great accomplishments, Hordak summoned the muscular, deep-voiced bounty hunter to assist him in tracking down and trapping She-Ra. Knowing the Silaxians pride themselves on their pure sense of good and evil, Hordak tricked Huntara into believing that She-Ra burned down an entire village in the name of the Rebellion. Willing to take on almost any job, Huntara offers her trapping and fighting skills for anyone willing to pay her high prices.

Huntara_03The bio mentions the events of the Huntara episode of She-Ra, including Hordak’s manipulation to fool Huntara into fighting She-Ra. It does seem weird that the final sentence says she’ll take on almost any job when that’s clearly established in the episode as not the case. She only goes after “evil ones”.

Huntara_04I would have liked to have seen a mention of what Huntara did after the events of her She-Ra episode. Did she join the Great Rebellion? Did she ever meet up with She-Ra or the Horde again? A hint would have been nice.

Huntara_05Accessories

Huntara got the short shrift on accessories. She comes with her two stun swords that look accurate, but they are extremely flimsy and bendable.

Huntara_13They clip onto her back, which is normally a feature I love, but the stun swords don’t look quite right with the blades extended on her back as they are retractable like a Star Wars lightsaber on the show. Removable blades like the Star Wars Black Series figures have or separate hilts would have been my preferred option.

Huntara_14She also comes with a random axe. It’s a nice-looking weapon and she can hold it, but it’s not really meant for her, and Mattel has said that it was a production mistake to include it with her rather than with Oo-larr. What I really wish we got was a masked head as shown here:

huntara maskedThis was a really cool alternate look for the character that I would have loved.

Huntara_06Sculpt

I can’t fault the sculpt at all. She looks like she stepped out of the Filmation cartoon. Her design really fits in well with the earlier barbarian fantasy style from the mini-comics.

Huntara_07Articulation

Huntara has the standard MOTUC articulation for female characters, except her ankles do not have the rocker functionality. That’s disappointing for such an action-oriented martial-artist-style character as those rocker ankles assisted in making cool poses.

Huntara_08Paint

Paint is very clean, but I think her eyebrows and eyes are a little bit too placid for the character.

Huntara_09Overall

It’s a weird thing to get a long wanted, campaigned for character and not completely love it. I’m very glad Mattel released Huntara and she is a good figure, but I would have liked a little more love and care taken with some added accessories.

  1. Yeah, seriously. If I’d just seen these pics on their own, I’d be wondering what a jedi was doing in the Motu universe.
