Services like Shapeways.com are getting hobbyists closer than ever to creating our own toys. I feel like it’s the frontier of customizing and my introduction to this world has been through the wonderful Masters of the Universe Classics accessories by Evil Mike.

Evil Mike has tons of great MOTU accessories digitally sculpted and available print to order from his shop at Shapeways. You can also contact him on Facebook for custom paint jobs.

I made an order quite a long time ago, so they had not announced an official MOTUC Staff of Avion at the time, but I’m still very glad to have this version. Mike softened the design a bit and replaced the skull with a jewel and wings that makes it a little more ‘heroic’ than the Filmation design.

The plastic is very solid and feels slightly flexible while retaining shape well. The polished finish removes a lot of the rough edges or texture you find on the standard printing material.
The Hammer is a natural accessory for the blacksmith Spikor, and Evil Mike sculpted a cool one that plugs right into the trident socket that came with the figure.
Mike also sells casted versions of his 3D-printed power swords in the appropriate colors so you can give your He-Man the version of the sword you love best. There’s Filmation:
The casts are great and feel a little more smooth and slightly more flexible than the straight Shapeways prints. I may repaint the blades with some shiny silver paint at some point.
A more recent purchase is a scabbard, sword handle, and sword that match the sword Sea Hawk used through most of the Filmation episodes he appeared in.
I think it adds a lot to Sea Hawk’s appearance, even softening the bulky look of his jacket a bit.
The scabbard plugs right into the jacket and hangs appropriately as it did in the show without glue or anything.
The attention to detail here is excellent and really adds to the overall look the character.
I bought these accessories directly from Mike through Facebook. He charges a really modest fee for painting the accessories and the paint is a great match to Sea Hawk’s blue costume trim. It felt worth the extra cost to me because I don’t always have the time to finish the custom projects I start.
These two Man-E-Faces weapons are designed by Mike based on some 2002 materials and were printed from Shapeways in the white, strong, and flexible material, with a polished finish. The club was polished, but Shapeways did not polish the staff, so you can see the difference between textures between these.
It’s a little rough, but the texture works okay for weapons for me. I do notice that the paint sinks into material well and hasn’t scraped off with play as you may expect.
A cool thing about the staff is that it can actually be held in both hands; the center has a thicker section that the more claw-like hand can grip.
The club looks great with the monster form.
I can’t recommend these weapons enough. The plain weapons straight from the Shapeways shop make for a fun and quick (once I actually started, they took a couple hours to finish) custom project to enhance your MOTUC figures.
