MOTUC Feature: Peekablue

Peekablue_01Peekablue, the all-seeing spy for the Great Rebellion, arrived this month as part of Mattycollector.com’s Club Eternia subscription. Let’s take a closer look at Peekablue!

Peekablue_02Peekablue™ Bio

Real Name: Penelope

A magical princess of Etheria, Penelope has the power to see in all directions. Her fabulous peacock feathers fan out into a beautiful plumage, which is the source of her powers and makes her a master spy. She is so proud of them that she likes to strut around Etheria just to show them off. It is the eyes at the tips of these pretty plumes that give her the power of omnidirectional vision. This bird’s eye view of all Etheria lets her know when Catra and the Horde make mischief. After the Horde left Etheria, she joined She-Ra and other members of the Great Rebellion on Eternia to continue the fight for freedom and peace. During the Second Ultimate Battleground she fought side by side with Man-E-Faces, eventually falling in love with him and choosing to stay on Eternia as a member of the Masters of the Universe.

Peekablue_03Another bio pairs off a Masters of the Universe character with a Princess of Power gal, and that’s probably the most fun part of the bio here. Her power is loosely defined here and Peekablue’s omniscient vision seems like an extremely effective power for spying, to say the least.

Peekablue_04Accessories

Peekablue comes with the standard PoP shield, her peacock feather backpack, and a fan. I love the consistency of issuing one of these shields with most every figure with fun character-appropriate repaints, so it’s nice to see that again.

Peekablue_05The pack is a huge, solid hunk of plastic with some wonderfully detailed feathers that can fan outward. It’s pretty heavy, so it can be difficult to get the right balance with it attached properly. It plugs solidly into Peekablue’s back and I actually like it attached upside down.

There is a bit of a cape look to it that I like, and it’s certainly easier to stand even though there is really no precedent for the look. The fan is a solid piece of red plastic with a peacock eye symbol painted in a glittery metallic red. I like the idea for the fan as it’s a unique weapon that fits the peacock theme well.

Peekablue_13Sculpt

The sculpt shows the 4H at their “good girl” sculpting best. The face has that classic Filmation feel and the feathers are packed with details. This may seem like an odd compliment, but the hair sculpt has a nice bouncy feel to it. The head does sit a little to high on the neck to accommodate the feather backpack.

Peekablue_06Articulation

Peekablue has the standard MOTUC articulation for females, but she is missing the ankle hinge, and the feathers do restrict her head movement to nothing. The skirt allows for some lunges, but impedes sitting.

Peekablue_07Paint

Paint is a standout with nice detailed metallics on the feathers, shield, bodice, bracers, boots, and fan and there is some subtle shading on the skirt. They used a somewhat shiny light overspray on the feathers to give them the appropriate peacock shimmer.

Peekablue_08Overall

Peekablue is not really on of my favorite PoP characters, so I wasn’t too excited for this figure, but she turned out really nice. The Great Rebellion collection is looking quite nice in its technicolor magnificence.

Peekablue_14I think my issue with her was that she wasn’t in the show much and her power is kind of uninteresting to watch. I do like the idea of a fan weapon, and I’m thinking that maybe her sight powers could include some battle pre-cognition like Ms. Marvel, allowing her to use her fan to deflect blaster bolts and whatnot.
