Masters of the Universe Classics Feature – Goat Man

Goat Man_23Goat Man is the MOTUC traveling convention figure for this year, and a small allotment was put on sale for Club Eternia subscribers through early access this month.  I was lucky enough to snag one at the sale, so let’s take a closer look at Goat Man!

Goat Man Bio
Real Name: Klacky

A member of the G’hoat men from the Northern Mountains, Klacky’s species is one of the only intelligent upright races that falls subjective to the hypnotic powers of the Beast Men®. And like most of his species, Klacky was captured by the rulers of the Vine Jungle and simply called “Goat Man” by his beastly masters. Eventually he found himself in the service of Raqquill Rqazz™ and was forced to serve in the Second Ultimate Battleground. Here he was severely wounded by Buzz Off® and left at the foot of Central Tower. Crawling inside, Klacky fell into a time portal and was transported to the future, arriving on Eternia® when King He-Man™ ruled the land and his son Dare™ wielded the Power Sword®. Forced to serve an aging Beast Man® in this new time, Goat Man™ is forever following whatever evil orders he is given.

Goat Man_25 Goat Man_26 Goat Man_27What’s interesting to me about this bio is that the classics canon creates yet another intelligent species on Eternia with the G’hoat men.  It’s a little sad that Klacky here is doomed to live perpetually in service to Beast Man in mind-controlled slavery, and it makes me wonder if Klacky is really that bad of a guy.  I personally saw him as more of a monster/demon man than a member of a race of tragically enslaved goat men.

Goat Man_28 Goat Man_29Accessories

Goat Man comes with a couple of cool accessories: an all-new battle hammer and the mini-comics version of the Staff of Avion.  The battle hammer is a cool little sculpt, but the handle is cast in flexible plastic that tends to droop a little, so it loses some luster there.

Goat Man_30.5It’s great to have a war hammer in MOTUC, though.  The staff of Avion is perfection.  The shaft is cast in a stiff green plastic, and it has these great translucent green orbs that scream mystic MacGuffin goodness.

Goat Man_17Especially nice is that they added the handle so Stratos can hold it pretty well with his open hands.  It’s always nice to get more Alcala-based stuff in MOTUC because I’m such a big fan.

Goat Man_30Sculpt

Goat Man reuses plenty of parts from He-Man and Keldor, with new thighs, armor, head and forearms to match his illustrated appearance.  The armor got some extra detail in the leather texture and rivets on the black design on his chest.  I’m a sucker for details like this and the raised design on the arm bracers.

Goat Man_01 Goat Man_02The head sculpt looks appropriately demonic and displays a prominent rack of sharp teeth.  The head sculpt seems ever so slightly too small and sits a little low on the neck, and that accentuates the bulk of the armor overlay.  Like Blade from earlier in the month, I was much happier with Klacky’s silhouette once I raised the head on the neck slightly.

Goat Man_03 Goat Man_04Articulation

Standard.

Paint

Also pretty standard.  There is some good metallic silver on the hammer, metallic gold on the staff, and a little airbrushed shading on the face.  The horns have a two-tone paint job to bring out the ridged detail, which is nice.

Goat Man_05 Goat Man_06 Goat Man_07Overall

I did not read Goat Man’s one Golden Book appearance until a few years ago, and I sought that out due to the awesome Goat Man custom by He-Mike.  Ever since I saw that guy, I’ve been wanting a Goat Man figure of my own.

Goat Man_08 Goat Man_09 Goat Man_10He’s also a name I’ve seen for years on fan wish lists, and he is pretty obscure, so it’s nice to see this type of fan service character get release.  To me, that’s a big part of what the MOTUC line is about — making all the cool, weird obscure guys and giving them the same love and attention to detail the major players get.
