Demanded Characters – The Wilson Family

Welcome back to the Titans edition of Demanded Characters. Recently we have been recently looking over the heroes of the Titan Team, but now I think its time to take a look at some villains that seem to be able to get under the Titans’ skin. While the Titans are a group of heroes who made their own family, this family is a mix of both heroes and villains. The Wilson family seems to be linked with the Titans, and have both been a challenge and an asset to the Titans.

I think most would agree Gar Logan is a must to complete any Titans team and feel a classic and modern look are the way to go.

The Wilson family seems to have plagued the Titans since the Perez days. With wave 3 about to hit, including the patriarch of the family, Deathstroke (Slade Wilson), I think the kids should be considered as well.

Starting with the original Ravager, Slade’s kids have been formidable enemies for the Titans. There has always been a kind of father-son rivalry in the DCU so it was natural that Death Strokes son Grant Wilson would follow in his father’s footsteps and take up a villain mantel in the DCU. As is too often the case in comic-dom, the son would die looking for his father’s approval. Grant’s death would only add to Slade’s hate for the Titans and fuel his fire to find new ways to bring them down.

The second Wilson to become part of the Titan Universe was Joseph Wilson, AKA Jericho. As a child he was used as a pawn against his father, and in the process he lost the ability to talk. Slade had a hand in turning Jericho, as well as the rest of his kids, into a weapon.  Jericho’s power was the ability to possess anyone he made eye contact with. Joey did not become a villain, instead he rejected his father and sought out Dick Grayson, Nightwing, and joined the Titans.  Joey’s life also ended in tragedy: Slade killed him when Jericho was possessed by Raven’s father Trigon.  Jericho was brought back to life by the Raven after he was found to be hiding inside his father’s mind.

The newest member of the Wilson family is Rose Wilson, the new Ravager. Not knowing her father and growing up in a hard home, Rose was a teen before she knew who her father was. She was kidnapped and dragged into Slade’s world. When he finds out she is his daughter, he starts to set plans in motion to bring her to him. During her time with Slade she trained under him and the family rivalry started up again, pitting Batgirl against Rose as Ravager. As any girl with daddy issues, she tries to do anything to get his approval, even cutting out her own eye to be more like her father. Eventually Slade realizes that she is doomed to fail and be hurt, so he starts to push her towards the Titans to give her a family who will protect her. Currently she is the Bad Girl of the Teen Titans, who Robin seems to have a soft spot for.

Now that we know the kids, lets talk about the best way to get them in DCUC-

There are a few ways that come to mind on how to get this dysfunctional family of the DCU. First, of course, would be part of a figure wave. We will have Daddy Deathstroke soon from DCUC wave 3, but I think they would be great as single figures.  his would give us modern and classic costumes as variants, depending on the character. I think a Classic Jericho would be the top contender for most of us, but it would also be fun to complete a modern Titans team with a modern Joey or an astral form. As for Rose, as a single I would imagine something like her father, the masked version as the regular and the chase being her unmasked.  I don’t see there being enough of a call for the original Ravager, as he had such a short life in the comics.

Another way for us to see this family would be in a 2-pack. The characters would be the same as above, only the 2-pack would have the variants with whatever combination you could want. I doubt Mattel would be edgy enough to give us a Robin and Rose two pack as seen in the picture below, handcuffs included.

Our last option is something that we have not yet seen from the DCUC, but is popular with the smaller scale lines: a mulitpack of the Slade family tree, including the three kids with a boat load of weapons.  I think this box set would kick butt. What do you think about giving us the unmasked Slade as the normal figure in this box set, kind of like the old Marvel Legends X-men box set?

However you want them, I say the Wilson family in entirety are a must have for the DCU, so how do you think we should get them?
