Deadpool’s been a Marvel Legend four times now! Three times! If you count the variant releases he’s had seven incarnations! Deadpool is a total hot commodity!
Kinda. Deadpool saw release back in series 6 during the ToyBiz era, then during Hasbro’s 2010 Toys R Us exclusive twin packs, then in 2012’s Epic Heroes, and then in the 2016 Marvel Legends Juggernaut Series. The first ToyBiz release had a Doop pack-in (hmm need to find Doop) and it was hailed as the greatest action figure of all time. And it was super rare to get. Then in 2010 Hasbro released two versions of Deadpool in their twin-packs: one with the Blue and Yellow/Orange costume and another in the classic Red. Then in 2012 Hasbro Released Deadpool again in the Epic Heroes series, twice! One classic red costume that was also rereleased later in England, and the Uncanny X-Force Grey and Black costume that was released in the U.S. There was an eBay release of a metallic-looking Deadpool that never saw retail light of day. And finally, in 2016 we saw the release of an all new Deadpool in the Juggernaut Series. Now all we need is a movie Deadpool from Hasbro.
This figure is a based on the Hasbro version of the ToyBiz Series 9 Bullseye that we first saw released with Hasbro’s 2007’s Blob Series. There are also a number of shared parts with 2008’s Red Hulk series Union Jack. There are a number of new parts, like the armor, swords, and head, all of which were seen in the 2010 twin-packs. Epic Heroes Deadpool doesn’t offer much of anything new outside of the variant in grey and black.
The articulation is standard Marvel Legends. As this is a bit of a look backwards, it becomes apparent how spoiled we’ve become with current Marvel Legends. The new hips (no longer balls pinned at 45 degree angles), rocker joints in the ankles allowing for that extra pose, and the ball-socketed head that allow you to switch Deadpool heads, like if you wanted to put a Spidey mask on him, or a Captain America head. The twin-pack/Epic Heroes Deadpool is a great figure and has a ton of posing potential.
The figure comes with two katanas, webbing/armor, a pistol, holster, and machine gun/grenade launcher. The extras are cool and a ton of fun to play with, especially the katanas. However, the right shootie hand does not hold the katanas well and scotch tape was applied to make the sword fit in the hand. With the guns, the ability to hinge the wrists vertically and not laterally is missed as you can’t shoulder the rifle. But for single-handed crazy-ass poses, there are tons of possibilities.
The question always boils down to should you have this figure in your collection or not? And the answer is yes. While the new Juggernaut Deadpool is the best Deadpool ever made, the twin-pack/Epic Heroes version is the best classic costumed Deadpool to date, surpassing the ToyBiz version.
