LEGO – DC Comics Batman: Man-Bat Attack 76011

x-defaultToday we are looking at our first DC Comics LEGO set, so of course we have to start with a Batman set. Man-Bat Attack is a small set but comes with two great vehicles and three minifigures. For me the DC LEGO sets can be hit or miss with their selection of builds. Some of them have iconic set pieces like the Batcave or vehicles like the Batmobile, but sometimes you get made-up set pieces or vehicles that are sometimes good and sometimes bad; luckily this set has a nice mix of iconic and good made-up pieces.

We get three very nice minifigures in this set. Man-Bat comes with two bundles of dynamite to toss at Batman and company. For the first time, we have a New 52 Nightwing. And we get a black-suited Batman that looks like he just jumped out of 1989 Batman movie. Batman also comes with his trusty Batarang.

All three figures come with 2-sided faces. I love when we get this because it allows us to pick and choose the expressions of our figures. Nightwing has a cocky smile face, along with his grim determined face. Batman comes with his ever-present straight-laced stern face, but his other face could be a half toothy smile or him somewhat gritting his teeth. Man-Bat has an evil-giant-monster bat face to go along with his silly-scared-giant-monster bat face. All three figures also have nicely printed backs, which is always an added bonus. Man-Bat has different arms then your standard LEGO minifigure arms. We have seen these used before on other Bat creatures. Not sure how I feel about Nightwing’s “Dragon Ball Z” hairstyle, but I guess it works for New 52.

The first vehicle in this set is one of those made-up pieces. It’s a small cool-looking glider meant for Nightwing, as you can tell by the red and black color scheme. Plus, the box tells me so. It has a spot for him to stand on, has two little wings that can move, has two “flames” coming out of the bottom, and has two grappling hooks that are there mostly for looks. There are no action features on this piece. Also note the black LEGO plate the glider is sitting on — that does not come with the set.

We have seen it done many different ways through the years on TV and in the comics, but it is recognizable enough for us to know what it is when we see it for the first time. It’s made up of mostly black bricks, with some yellow and orange bricks mixed throughout. It has an opening cockpit for Batman to sit in.

The piece comes with two play features. The first is two flick-missiles on either side of the cockpit, and the other is a working winch with a hook that can be used to save Nightwing in the nick of time. And no copter would be complete without two spinning rotors.

At this price point, the set is worth it just for the three minifigures, but I really enjoyed the simple glider build, and I can never have enough Batman-related vehicles. So if you are a longtime Batman or LEGO fan, I think you will agree, this set is well worth the $20.
