The New Mutants/X-Force kids seem to have finally come into their own and have graduated to the big leagues. (And people say there’s no progression in comics.) Not only that, but they’re actually being written WELL. Hot damn! X-Men theme month at MMM continues with Wolfsbane.
Last week’s poll re-cap: With 69% of the vote you chose New Mutants Magik as the version of the character you most want made for Marvel Legends. The Modern version came in a distant second with only 8%.
Make My Marvel! – Wolfsbane
Raised by an overzealous reverend, Rahne Sinclair was a mutant with the ability to transform into a form of wolf. When her powers manifested, the abusive reverend and several villagers hunted Rahne, believing her to be possessed. Moira Mactaggert stepped in to save the girl after she was injured. Moira realized that the girl was a mutant and brought her to Professor Xavier. Rahne became one of the first of Xavier’s New Mutants.
Rahne remained with the group until it came under the leadership of Cable. It was during this period that Rahne became a mutate prisoner in Genosha. After the X-Men brought down the government, she chose to remain there to help in the rebuilding effort and find a way to reverse the mutate bonding process.
When the government created it’s own version of X-Factor, Rahne joined. She later learned that she had been bonded emotionally to Havok, often making her unstable. During a battle with the mutant Haven, Rahne was restored both mentally and physically. She remained until the group disbanded. She briefly joined Excalibur before that team was also dissolved. Following the death of Moira Mactaggert at the hands of Mystique, Rahne accepted a teaching position at Xavier’s. That too ended abruptly when she was caught having an affair with a student under her tutelage.
More recently, Wolfsbane seems to have given in somewhat to her bestial nature as part of Multiple Man’s incarnation of X-Factor. Rahne may or may not have also been knocked up by Rictor. Jury’s still out on that one. (Insert any "Earth Moved" jokes here)
How to make it: Rahne is equally iconic in both wolf and human form, so the only way to do this one right is offer her as a two-pack: a human version and a wolfen version. Another alternative, but only if it’s either of the X-Factor costumes, is swappable wolf/human heads and limbs. The only version that would require no alternate version is the first X-Factor era costume as Wolfsbane remained in wolf form for almost the entirety of her tenure with the group. If a two pack or extra limbs is out of the question, then that one is probably the way to go.
