Figure or Fodder: MAFEX Suicide Squad and TDK Bank Robber Joker Picture Dump and Quick Thoughts

For those unfamiliar with the Fwoosh YouTube channel, every now and then I like to drag out some older figures that I never got around to opening and take a quick look at each in a segment dubbed Figure or Fodder. Really, it’s an excuse to play with a pile of toys instead of going at them one at a time. The latest is MAFEX Suicide Squad themed with a The Dark Knight Joker mixed in.

Not a lot of words, just the pictures from the video for reference. But for those who prefer a little text, I’ll throw my grades and quick notes with each set.

Harley Quinn: B+

A lot of people think I’m being too soft on this one. She’s a little clunky but I think the SHF has given us the wrong impression of what the character actually looks like. After sitting and staring and contemplating I really think I prefer the MAFEX over the Figuarts. It helps that I have more Medicom than Bandai when it comes to DC movies so she fits better with my collection.

Bank Robber Joker: A

I only bought this because it was cheap. Super cheap. I had no expectations for it at all, didn’t open it for a long time. I knew I didn’t like the unmasked head but once I finally cracked it open and put the clown mask head on it all fell together. A bit stylized, yes, but it has a ton of shelf presence. Awkward in a good way. It’s a little loose in spots but nothing, NOTHING, like the BvS Superman.

Deadshot: A-

I’m taking a half point here because of it’s size. A bit large but it kind of fits because Smith is 6’2″ to Leto’s 5’9″ and Robbie’s 5’6″ plus insane heels. The MAFEX line runs larger than SHF (at least for the Squad stuff, their TDK figures seem to match up fine for whatever reason) but look okay within their own realm. I love how convoluted and busy the figure is because that’s exactly how it looked in the movie. And Medicom didn’t skimp on the script on the various parts.

Joker (Suit version): B+

Nothing revolutionary here but I love the pearlescent white of the jacket. I don’t really care for the Garland Greene head but the laughing hysterically face does it for me. Plus with all the interchangeability with the older purple trenchcoat version it just adds more options.

Harley Quinn (Dress version): C-/D+

Not a great figure at all. I’m drawn to it because I don’t have another version, but the dress is clunky and essentially kills most poses. The chest articulation breaking the cleavage is ugly and the base is narrow, causing stability issues. She comes with action and grip hands but nothing to actually action or grip. The extra head with the bubble gum bubble for the first Harley is nifty though. Glad I didn’t pay retail for this.
