Last week it was Cap’s patriotic understudy. This week I spotlight some things equally American: guns, cowboy hats, mini-skirts and giant doorknobs. Pull up a chair next to the main stage and get your singles ready.
First, the recap of last week’s poll:With a whopping 82%, you overwhelmingly chose the modern/classic costume for U.S. Agent with the majority of those voting favoring the "ultimate cap"-ish details of the modern version. The other three choices barely ranked and those of you voting for the Super Patriot II costume owe everyone else a public apology for your downright offensive taste.
You heard the fans, Hasbro: Make modern U.S. Agent for Marvel Legends or be forever labeled communists.
Moving on…. Ron’s informed me that my hitcount is slipping (#34 right behind the "technical difficulties" FAQ), so I need to boost my ratings. Since making outrageous racial & sexist slurs doesn’t work as well as it used to, I’m going back to that tried and true ratings booster: sex appeal. The pics following my grandma’s last bikini wax aren’t back yet, so we’re going to go a little more obscure this week with….
Make My Marvel! – Outlaw
Outlaw, aka Inez Temple (but don’t call her "Crazy Inez"), is a mutant– one of the few "198" remaining in the Marvel Universe following M-Day. Outlaw first appeared in Deadpool and went on to appear in both the short-lived Agent X and X-Men: 198. Outlaw became romantically involved with Alex Hayden, aka Agent X, aka NOT Deadpool, who was recently given Blob-like proportions by Hydra, so Inez’s probably single again.
Outlaw’s mutant abilities include enhanced strength and durability along with superhuman marksmanship and greater skill with a lasso. She’s also one of the few comicbook heroines to fess up to having "augmentations." That last bit is obviously important and should be included on the cardback for her figure. My heart warms imagining little Billy picking this one up at Wal-mart and later asking his parents, "Daddy, what’re ‘implants’, and what do they have to do with ‘funbags’?"
The upper legs, lower torso, and upper arms from the figures of either the Phoenix/Ms.Marvel/Invisible Woman or Psylocke bodies can be re-used for Outlaw. The upper body (vest), head (face, hair, & cowboy hat), lower legs (cowboy boots) and lower arms(wrist bands) would all have to be new, character-specific sculpts. The new torso and wrist pieces could be re-used for future figures (like a movie Elektra) giving the new parts some investment potential down the road. For the skirt, a soft rubber piece, akin to those used on the Mattel DC Superheroes Supergirl or Sota Streetfighter Sakura figures would work fine here. Slap on some hip holsters and you’re in business. If Hasbro really wanted to add that authentic touch, they could make the hat, along with the long hair, one removable piece to reveal the character’s short hair she hides under her wig.
Outlaw’s only appeared in the one outfit, so there’s no costume poll this week. Instead, this week’s poll will help me narrow down next week’s MMM.
Choose the category next week’s character should come from:
X-Men
Avenger
Villain
