There have been a few Marvel Legends Punisher figures over the years with a lot of good qualities, but I don’t really love any of them. Hasbro has been on such a roll these days that I actually look forward to their revisiting characters from the past like The Punisher. Let’s take a look!
This Punisher comes with three weapons and an alternate head. The shotgun and bazooka were recently released with Deadpool and were a little warped in the packaging. I find it weird that shotgun is painted white while the other weapons look a little bit more realistic, but I can accept it from a guy who wears bright white boots and gloves to a night fight.
The machine gun fares a little better, though it seems to me like this type of gun needs a string of bullets. I’m not a gun guy, but it looks like there is a spot for it.
The Punisher is based on the thicker Grim Reaper base body, so he has a little more bulk than the standard base body, and that feels appropriate.
The head sculpt with the bandana is clearly based on the artwork of Jim Lee, and it matches the more angular style of the artist well.
The overall feel of the figure is very old school but with some nods to more modern trends with the inclusion of shoulder straps.
It is interesting that only part of the belt is white where it meets with the “teeth” on his shirt. If the belt were white, you could have had a totally classic Punisher by removing the shoulder gear. I actually like the way this figure straddles the line a bit and I like how the bazooka can attach to the hole in the back of the figure and web gear.
The alternate head sculpt has more of a classic feel to it and is less artist specific and I think I prefer it. He looks a little nuts to me, which is interesting because it’s more of a neutral expression.
The only downfall of the whole thing is that he doesn’t have trigger fingers at all. It seems like a huge mistake for a gun-toting character like The Punisher.
The Punisher has the following articulation:
- Swivel/hinged neck, shoulders, wrists, hips and ankles
- Swivel biceps, thighs, boots and waist
- Hinged mid-torso
- Double-hinged knees and elbows
The paint is pretty solid with no slop or mistakes. I like that white parts are pretty bright white without the overly blue or gray shading we often see. Most of the figure is black plastic, so the main paint is on the head.
I wish Hasbro would send their Black Series figures to this factory to paint the heads. The eye hits are right on and detailed, and the classic head sculpt has a really nice 5 o’clock shadow.
Overall, this is a really nice figure with one glaring error in the lack of trigger hands. I know this is probably not a popular opinion, but I have been loving the Walgreens Marvel Legends exclusives. They are by far the easiest Marvel Legends for me to find in the store.
