It took the lead-in to this year’s Wrestlemania to make me fully come to grips with my wrestling problem. I’ve got it bad. And naturally it’s spilled over to my action figure collection. For this year’s countdown, I decided to reenact all the main events in figure form. It was a blast, but I quickly regretted not getting the various attires of some of the big stars, specifically guys like The Rock, John Cena, and Shawn Michaels. I was solid on Hulk Hogan.
So I watched Wrestlemania 32 with an agenda. Not so much to be pleasantly surprised by the show — I wasn’t — but to see which stars I’d most want figures of in their extra-special Wrestlemania attire. And wouldn’t you know, I came up with a lot of great options.
Sin Cara – One half of The Lucha Dragons rocked a killer all-white outfit that’s a significant departure from his more colorful attire. In this case the lone color worked really well, creating a look that would really stand out in a collection.
Kalisto – On the exact opposite end, Sin Cara’s tag team partner had a colorful purple and gold that would be too cool to miss out on getting as a figure.
AJ Styles – The Phenomenal One tends to wear a dominant black attire with a color, typically blue, accent. That’s why his dominant white attire was Too Sweet (sorry, Bullet Club flashbacks). A Wrestlemania version could hit shelves right around the same time as the standard attire. All I know is I need Mattel AJ Styles figures like last week.
The New Day – While their black and gold ring attire wasn’t necessarily their most spectacular, their ring entrance outfits a la Dragon Ball Z was pretty great. I’ll happily take a box set Mattel.
Stardust – The son of The American Dream honored his father in a unique way this year by wearing a polka dot outfit. I’m not pleading for accessories for anyone else, but we NEED a polka dot ladder accessory.
Stephanie McMahon – Going all-out “Red Sonja meets Conan the Destroyer,” one-half of The Authority looked amazing in her getup. This isn’t as elaborate as her Summerslam attire, so hopefully Mattel can convince Stephanie this is an alternate look worthy of a figure.
Sasha Banks – The Boss’ normal attire is pretty boss, but her Eddie Guerrero tribute, complete with long tights with “Legit Boss” in the same style font as “Latino Heat” and flame boots, made this my absolute must-get figure attire.
