Funko had Five Nights at Freddy’s action figures on display at Toy Fair 2016. They announced the figure in late 2015, and even released press pics, but it was at Toy Fair that I got to see them up close and personal. The figures are 5-inch scale and look amazing.
For those of you that haven’t heard of the game or haven’t played it, it revolves around a security guard that is sent to guard Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. It’s a pizzeria and entertainment restaurant for kids, think Showbiz Pizza or Chuck E. Cheese. Back in the ’80s those pizzerias had these big animatronic mascots that were entertaining while being completely freaky. Gotta remember I was coming out of the toddler years and into the teen years where imaginations would run wild. Five Nights at Freddy’s jumps on that fear and actually screws it a notch too extreme. Those cute mascots? They are now murderous, scary, blood-thirsty robots from hell.
And you have to survive them. The game came out in 2014 and has spawned three sequels, a book, a spinoff game, and a movie. It’s a huge success and, personally, it’s a game I can’t play. It’s a “jump scare” game, meaning the scares pop out of nowhere, and while I love horror movies of all kinds, jump scares kill me. Specially when they are killer-robot mascots from a child’s pizza palace. My youngest son loves the series and laughs while playing it; he even dragged my wife into it, and watching her jump out of her skin was fantastic.
The figures look great, and while they stand at 5 inches, they’ll be perfect for any horror action figure collection. They aren’t due to hit until summer 2016 and the wait will be long. Funko has a hit-and-miss track record on the production side with action figures, but I am hoping that these turn out great, cause they need to torment S.H. Figuarts Bruce Lee . . .
