It’s Avengers season! With Endgame right around the corner, let’s take a look at the brand new Infinity War Corvus Glaive and Loki two-pack! Wait…
It’s taken a year to get the rest of the Black Order (Ebony Maw is hitting in the first Endgame Legends assortment right now) but I’m not even mad. We got Proxima Midnight and Cull Obsidian last year around the release of the movie, but because of the lead time needed to produce action figures we ended up with toys that didn’t quite match what we saw on the screen. Proxima was closer, but Cull went through some extensive changes from concept to movie. So getting more faithful version of Maw and Glaive is worth the wait.
And no, I’m not sure if they care to be called by shortened names. I don’t think I’m going to get snapped out of existence for making an intro more brief though.
Make no mistake about it: Corvus Glaive is the reason to get this set. He finishes a crew and is an amazing unique sculpt. Loki looks suave in his new darker costume colors but he’s just the Thor: Ragnarok version in black and green. While his face print is more crisp this time around the excessive glossiness is distracting. Nothing a little Dullcote can’t fix.
Did I mention Glaive? No no, it’s cool. We’re friends.
There is some kind of sculptural detail to oooo and ahhh over on ever little bit of this figure. The cape works great, both in look and in it’s function as a kickstand, but because of the movie design the left arm gets hindered. The rubberiness is as rubbery as it can be but it’s just an arm cage that can’t be avoided. Which is a shame because range of movement of this big guy is surprising.
Not to mention the likeness. The face is a little scary, and then it’s surrounded by a hood that just fits into the overall piece while not hindering movement. Paints are all nice, helping to mesmerize you into staring way too long, much like the sculpt work. And don’t forget the blade staff! Finally, we get a good version of this, something Figuarts couldn’t even do. But again, it’s been a year, so they better have made it great.
Oh yeah, and Loki. He’s cool too.
