Hasbro: Entertainment Earth Clone Trooper Exclusive

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-1Entertainment Earth released a Star Wars Black Series Imperial forces four-pack last year, and they are back again this year with a four-pack of phase II clones from Revenge of the Sith. Let’s check out this new four pack!

Ever since their introduction in Attack of the Clones, there have been clones with some colorful paint jobs. We’ve got a couple of these more colorful phase one clone troopers in the black series. I remember referring to them as “skittle troopers” back when Hasbro released the original figures. Revenge of the Sith doubled down on the skittle trooper idea by adding unique decorations and color schemes to different clone brigades and The Clone Wars cartoon tripled down on this idea so much that I don’t really recall seeing many phase II clones with the plain white paint jobs.

This pack includes a trooper from four different clone groups and the packaging has a nice slip cover that gathers four standard black series boxes that are connected like an accordion. It’s neat, but ultimately goes in the recycling bin.

The set is basically the Phase II trooper from Amazon’s exclusive set from last year repainted in four different color schemes. The body is the same as the Phase I clone body, so the articulation is the same that most of us are familiar with, but the POA is as follows:

  • Swivel/hinge neck, shoulders, wrists, hips and ankles
  • Double hinged knees and elbows
  • Swivel biceps and thighs
  • Ball-and-socket neck and mid-torso

Robo took a look at that four pack here:

The Blue trooper is a member of Anakin’s battle group, the 501st. These are the guys he fights with in the Clone Wars and who accompany him to slaughter the Jedi at the Jedi Temple. Hopefully we’ll get a Rex in the Black Series soon so this clone can have a buddy.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-44This trooper comes with the smaller blaster rifle that has come with all of the other previously released clone figures from this line. I was a little surprised that each clone didn’t have both guns since that’s been standard since our first clone.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-42The real story for this set is the paint jobs and they are fantastic. The figures feel a little glossier than some of the older clone figures and the lines are sharply painted.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-43The weathering is actually really nice too. Some of the nicest I’ve seen in this line with dirt smudges, scratches in the paint and dark wear marks on each figures that matches a lot of the wear and tear depicted in the films.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-34Well, perhaps I jump the gun saying “as depicted in the film” because, as far as I can tell, the green decorated trooper from the 442nd Siege Battalion wasn’t actually in any of the movies or the Clone Wars Cartoon.

I couldn’t remember these guys, so I looked it up and apparently this figure is based on concept art for Revenge of the Sith.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-45There were a couple of different units with green markings on the show so you can go with that. I’m thinking of Commander Gree who worked with Yoda.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-46This clone also comes with the smaller rifle which is cast in solid black plastic and has no paint.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-47This clone is probably my least favorite of the set, even though the paint job is well done, I have no connection. He’s still cool, just not as cool as the others.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-48One of the cooler designs are the Shock Troopers that provide security on Coruscant in the Clone Wars cartoon and are the group that accompanies Palpatine to rescue Vader from Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith.

This trooper comes with the larger rifle, which is also cast in solid black plastic and has no paint work.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-33I really wish I had a couple of these to flank the Emperor.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-50For now I’ll have to use Photoshop to create that effect.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-49Which brings me to one of my issues with the set: I want more! It’s weird to me to have just one of each type of clone. The clone troopers look a little weird all grouped together with the different colors, and a little odd just by themselves.

Perhaps that’s part of why my favorite clone in the set is from Obi-Wan’s 212th Attack Battalion because I already own a buddy for him in Commander Cody.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-32The color doesn’t quite match exactly, so that’s a little disappointing. I’d still really like a couple more of these to go with Cody.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-31 It has some especially nice weathering with all the scratches on the yellow markings that look very natural.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-35This clone also comes with the smaller rifle and I went ahead and glued an old blast effect to the barrel for photographs.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-36That brings me to my final criticism, the cost. It’s a little high at $100, especially considering that the troopers don’t have the usual number of accessories.

clone-trooper-exclusive-set-37The set is available now at Entertainment Earth.

  1. That sounds right. I’ll take your word for it as I’m not going back to rewatch that pile of crap any time soon.

  2. I’ll definitely grab an extra set or two if they drop the price. They’ve had the $119 GOTG box set on sale for $60 a couple times so there’s certainly a precedent.

  3. Thanks. If they ever go on sale for a lower price, they will be impossible to resist. I know I want at least one more of each except the greenie. Maybe I’ll do some repaints on a plain Phase II trooper I have.

  4. Amazing pictures as usual, Matt. Very impressed with these figures, just wish they weren’t and exclusive 4 pack.

  5. I don’t think the Phase II clone troopers ever actually appeared in the movie in plain white armor. Don’t know how hard it would be, but I’d love to see this figure done up as Clone Commander Gree. I love that camo armor.
