What the hell is a “Hit Monkey”? Seriously, I’m not even certain I heard about Hit Monkey before he was released as a Marvel Legends Build-A-Figure in a 2013 series.
So yeah, a 2010 one shot, who get some Deadpool love, gets an action figure. I will be totally honest, I’m as kerbaffled as you are. That is, was. Once I started reading S.T.A.K.E.’s Howling Commandos, I was less confused. Not really, I had to do some internet research for this article to find out the big deal, and I’m not certain I have found out the big deal. But here’s the skinny: monkey learns how to be an assassin from an assassin, is too violent for his monkey tribe, is exiled, and then decides to kill other assassins. Deadpool becomes a target, hijinks ensue. That’s pretty much it.
I can’t tell if the inclusion of Hit Monkey in a Marvel Legends wave was a serious move, a joke, or something else altogether. It’s a tiny BAF that is, well, tiny and a character that is, well, not well known. Either Hasbro knew something we didn’t or they were smoking some serious funny stuff they put this series together.
But we have a monkey. You know what this monkey needs? A cameo in Deadpool. He’ll be instantly popular. A monkey in a monkey suit trying to kill Deadpool. Could it be any better?
This is a pretty good figure. He’s actually got a great sculpt, and if I could have found Coulson, I’da had them mad pimping in their suits. They’d be all over it. The articulation on the figure is pretty good. No double elbows or knees, but the range of motion allows for some great poses. An ab joint woulda knocked this figure out of the park.
Hit Monkey comes with some guns, you’ll have to ask DisThunder on the exact kind, but they look like H&K MP5s. Nice little guns.
Normally I’d go out and tell ya that you need this figure. You don’t. It’s a BAF that you either have to buy a whole series of figures for, or you have to get him on eBay at some insane price. As a character he’s not critical — at all — so you can skip him. But if you feel the need, you can get him here:
