Along with the Rogue One figures released last week, several new 3.75-inch scale Star Wars: Rebels figures and vehicles hit stores. Let’s take a look at the new Kanan and Sabine figures and the A-Wing and Imperial Speeder.
Sabine Wren
This Sabine features her season 2 look with bright blue hair and modified armor. I like that Sabine is wearing what I’ve heard series director Dave Filoni refer to as her “adventure gear.” She has some more pouches, tech armor on her forearms and some ammo cases on her boots.
This Sabine is a little taller and her stance feels a little more natural than the original season 1 Sabine.
The helmet is removable and is sculpted in a soft plastic. In person it seems to hold the shape well, but in these photos I noticed that her nose slightly bends the visor out a bit.
She comes with this big honking piece of plastic that has a piece of string attached. I think the idea is to have her slide on the string as a zip line. It’s kind of useless for me now, but I can see kids having fun setting this up.
The figure is sculpted to look good holding her guns neutrally, but she looks a little awkward when pointing at villains. The two guns are super tiny and fit snugly in her holsters. The 5 POA is a little frustrating for me as a photographer, though I do like that the neck is ball jointed.
The paint is really nice and I think this figure does a better job translating the cartoon look to real life in great detail than the season 1 figure.
I think I’ll replace my season 1 figure on the shelf with this one.
Kanan in Stormtrooper Disguise
Kanan has dressed up as a trooper a few times on the show, so this feels like a natural figure release. The head sculpt is new and more detailed than the original Kanan. He’s got a pretty aggressive expression that looks straight out of the show.
His height is on par with the original Kanan figure and a bit taller than the Stormtrooper Commander from the Hera 2-pack. He comes with the standard Imperial blaster, Kanan’s lightsaber, a removable helmet and a big projectile weapon
The helmet is pretty soft material but is sharp. It looks pretty natural to me and not oversized. The projectile weapon is large and mostly useless, but, again, I can see kids firing the blue disc off at each other and having fun.
Overall, this is a fun variant that can double as a regular trooper if you wish.
The packaging has a pretty neat painting of Kanan on the front.
Imperial Speeder Bike
This bike is one of the frequently used vehicles in Rebels season 1 and feels almost iconic to me due to this.
The box also has a couple of really cool paintings depicting this character in action.
The speeder itself has hinged handle bars and an adjustable foot pedal so characters of differing heights can plug into the foot pedals. There is a little storage area in the back. This whole thing is a repaint of the recently released Ezra speeder bike, and it’s a fun little vehicle to play with. The figure comes with the standard blaster and has the regular 5 POA.
In the show, the Rebels steal these speeders that were towing cargo crates. I really wish they had included one of those cargo crates with this speeder.
Hera’s A-Wing
This ship also has some really impressive artwork on the front and side. I feel bad that I’m just going to toss it out because Hera looks extremely cool in these images.
The A-Wing comes with a Hera in pilot helmet and a couple of Nerf missiles and Hera’s tiny little gun. The Hera is pretty much the original figure with a new helmet.
I already lost the teeny tiny little gun inside the A-Wing cockpit. It fell out of her hands and I can hear it rattling around in there.
The ship seems a little small, but the cockpit is really roomy and Hera kind of flops around in there. The detail on the sculpt is nice and the paint markings look fantastic and sharp. A nice addition is a little sticker with some Sabine graphitti referencing Kanan.
I think I’d like it better if the Nerf firing thing was removable.
