Who doesn’t want a hall of armors for their S.H. Figuarts Iron Man collection? And with Tony Stark coming to a store near you soon, along with the Mark 3, it can’t be a better time to be an Iron Man collector. Especially when Bandai continues to reissue early figures, like the Mark 42.
Bandai recently released their reissue of the successful Mark 42 armor from Iron Man 3. For many, the Iron Man 3 movie was forgettable, but I loved it and I love the armor and the hall of armors. Bandai has been slow in its release of Iron Man armors, the fact that we are just now getting the Mark 3 is amazing, and I don’t know if we will see more of the House Party Protocol armors from Bandai, but I hope the reissue opens the door for some.
This is another great figure from S.H. Figuarts and I’m glad I got in on the reissue; my oldest son was quick to mention that it looked better than the first issue. I’m not certain what he was talking about, but he swears up and down the reissue looks better than the first issue reviewed on various YouTube channels. Since he’s more into YouTube videos than I am, I’ll take his word for it. Personally, I have no idea, but I like the figure. The sculpt is really good and Bandai continues to do a great job of making these armors look like a million bucks.
The integration of sculpt and articulation is masterfully done. It seems that many toy companies can either get the sculpt right, or the articulation right, but not both. Bandai has come a long way since their first Mark 6 armor. The articulation, points of articulation is still the same, is much more stable. Joints are tighter and fit more seamlessly into the sculpt. Actually, the joints were so tight that I had to bathe my Mark 42 in a vat of silicon spray (WD-40) to loosen some of them up. But I’d rather have this problem rather than a floppy figure. As mentioned, each S.H. Figuarts Iron Man release has improved drastically.
The figure comes with the staple Iron Man accessories: hands and blast effects. There is no unmasked head for this figure, but I think the upcoming Tony Stark is designed to be swappable with current Iron Man figures. Which is reallllly cool. Being able to pop parts on and off from other figures is going to be fun. Being able to pop Tony’s head onto the Mark 46 will be really cool.
If you are a collector of the Hall of Armors, a fan of Iron Man, or you just want cool figures to play with, then this is the figure for your collection. If you are like me and you just love S.H. Figuarts, then this is a figure you have to have. It’s a great quality, it’s beautifully sculpted, and it’s hand candy. You can pick yours up today at the following retailers:
