The Fwoosh presents Shōken, a warrior on a quest for righteousness. With photography by Matthew K and narration by Ibentmyman-thing.
My father’s last words were “promise me.” And to ears that no longer heard this world’s music, I made that promise.
I promised that I would take all that I learned from him, and make this land a better place. I promised that I would not disgrace the strength passed down through his blood into mine.
I promised my father that I would not waste what he had taught me. I promised that I would search out the evils of the world and bring them to justice.
I promised that I would be hard and cruel when the situation asked for it, but that I would always open my hand and heart when the need arose.
I promised that I would never forget the small child I once was, nor would I forget how it felt to be powerless.
I promised that I would be the strength that others might not have. I promised that I would be the answer to the cries for help that shattered serenity’s embrace.
I promised my father that I would strive to leave peace in my footprints, if chaos blossomed there first. I promised him a legacy that would make him proud.
As a child I wished to be a hero. But as a man I have learned that heroism does not come from wishes. One cannot wish their way into fables.
I am not a hero.
I may never be a hero.
But I recognize evil when I see it.
And father, though I may not be a hero…
I promise I will try.
