In advance of next week’s Toy Fair, Mezco held an event today to reveal a huge new expansion of their very popular One:12 Collective line.
We knew they were venturing into more comic-based DC characters, along with Star Trek, and Universal Monsters, but now we can add Marvel to the list of properties. For a line that has averaged 1-2 figures a year so far, 2016 will represent an exponential expansion of offerings. Better sell your house now.
For their first Marvel figures, Mezco seems to be trying to leverage current media properties, so we’ll be seeing Captain America, Daredevil, and Punisher. But don’t worry–these are all comic-based/inspired designs. On the DC side, Captain Marvel, Reverse Flash, and Green Arrow join the already announced Superman and Flash (as well as the three Dawn of Justice movie figs). Space Ghost rounds out the superhero slate. Joining Spock and Sulu is a phenomenal Captain Kirk. Sure, you all assumed he was coming, but did you think it would be this soon? And let’s not forget Frankenstein’s monster of the Universal Monsters.
Note that many accessories were not on display in the showroom. Some still need to be finalized. But rest assured that this line, which has become known for a ton of alternate heads, hands, weapons, and accessories will continue in that vein. Every figure is slated to come with at least three sets of hands, as well as a bunch of other goodies.
Captain America will have a knife, grenades that attach to his belt, and more. Superman may come with a breakable chain, Bottle City of Kandor, and Kryptonite rock. Flash will come with lighting effects, Captain Marvel will come with Mr. Mind and other goodies. Needless to say, Punisher comes with a few guns.
Here’s the story on the figure bodies (cause I know that’s what you’re wondering). For the lines that feature “real people”, such as Star Trek, there are currently two bodies. They’re roughly the same height, but have different builds–one stockier, one more slender. You can see these on Kirk and Spock. For the comic-based lines, there are currently four different body types (this is NOT counting the DKR Batman and Judge Dredd bodies–neither of those is being used for any of these new characters). The differences between these four are so subtle, that I can’t tell you for sure that, say, Daredevil and Flash share the same body, but I can tell you that Superman looks bigger than Flash and Cap looks more built than Daredevil. This type of nuance in body types is something a lot of people have been craving in lines like Marvel Legends (*cough* Phinneas *cough*), but we don’t expect to actually see.
The soft goods clothing/costumes continue this line’s tradition of looking fantastic. I know there was some concern when the first DC prototypes were shown at Comic Con, but the finished products look great. Superman in particular is leaps and bounds ahead of the proto. Likewise, the Dawn of Justice movie figures look better in person than in the pics we’ve seen.
Captain America will come in two variations–a WWII and modern version. Daredevil has three–traditional red (with some modern-y looking accents), 1st appearance, and his red/black look. Punisher has two variations as well.
Of course, all the articulation you’ve come to expect from this line will carry over into these figures. I don’t know what else I can say, so I’ll let the pics speak for themselves. The detail is pretty remarkable on these, the fabrics are distinct and appropriate to each character. And the faces are truly a gold standard for this scale, in my book.
Here’s the rundown for 2016
