Fwoosh staff have covered Star-Lord before, and I have a love affair with this character from the ’70s. Star-Lord is finally here! He finally made it to the big screen and he made it to Marvel Legends. He’s been released in his movie form, now his comic form, and he will be released again in his comic form as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy box set due out some time in the near future. Now if we can only get his classic costume (you know, the one from 1976’s Marvel Preview #4)!

Star Lord was shown at SDCC or Toy Fair some moons ago, and we first saw this buck hit production as the A.I.M. goon that was part of the Captain America Marvel Legends Infinites wave earlier this year. It’s a great buck and has some great uses, like Ghost Rider, but it’s best used as Peter Quill in his Guardians of the Galaxy uniform. The figure is straight-up the same as the A.I.M. goon but with a new head, new belt, no bandoleer, and new guns. There isn’t much difference. In fact, read what Robokillah already said about this buck here. Hmm… those guns repainted would make for some cool space guns.

The articulation is excellent. This figure has some seriously good articulation and all of it works. The engineering and manufacturing came out perfectly, and I’m loving playing with the figure. The breakdown is:

Rocker ankles
Hinged ankles
Shin swivels
Double knees
Swivel thighs
Ball hips
Swivel Waist
Hinged abs
Ball shoulders
Swivel biceps
Double elbows
Swivel wrists
Hinged wrists
Hinged neck
Ball head

I love the colors on this figure. I don’t know what it is, but the red and blue and the gold really pop for me. It’s a good-looking figure with a ton of character. With a character that is masked, it’s important that the design has some personality, and the colors really make this figure pop. And I love the paint apps on the faceplate, I looked at them multiple times on the plane home from Comic-Con this year (yeah, I had this set in my carry-on), and I’ve looked at it more since coming home.

The figure includes two guns for Star-Lord to go around blasting things with his little buddy Rocket Racoon. I know the Comic-Con box set that includes this figure will go on sale at any time at Hasbro Toy Shop and that fwooshers are already chomping at the bit to get their set. It’s worth it, but remember: Star-Lord will be getting another appearance in an upcoming Marvel Legends box set (with a comic Gamora and new Drax!!).

Oh, and it you haven’t seen the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, what’s the dilly-o? It’s the bomb, dude. Boom.

  1. Well, I don’t know what everybody’s complaining about. Look at those beautiful crisp paint apps and that wash on the Black Panther is light years away from Toybiz’s treatment! It is indeed all good.

  2. Wow. The availability of this set on hasbrotoyshop sure came and went about as fast as you could say excelsior. If you weren’t refreshing your page fast than every 3 minutes you were out of luck apparently.
