Well, we are just days from the San Diego Comic Con – the geek prom of the year when you will get your first looks at all kinds of newly unveiled plastic toy must-haves. Stay tuned right here as we will be broadcasting live from the floor for the entire Con. But you don’t have to wait until Preview Night (July 21st) to start to get some First Looks – thanks to Toy Guru and crew we have a slew of new things to show you right now! Yep, Con merch, monthly Matty figures and more in all flavors for your discerning eyeballs.
Like I said, we have a LOT to get to so we are going to be providing mostly pictures (what you really come for anyway) and few words about each of these new Mattel offerings, and we are getting it all started with the little troublemaker from Trolla, everyone’s favorite legless court magician – Orko! Oh, and his impressive accessory, Prince Adam.
As I am sure you know, there are two versions of Orko that will be made available to Masters of the Universe Classics fans. First, is the color changing, invisibility magic trick version that will be available ONLY at SDCC (don’t worry, we will have a look at him very soon); for now though, we have the standard, solid version of Orko that will be made available on Mattycollector.com on August second. While I am looking forward to getting my mitts on the con version, I think this one will be the version that I ultimately display – I am pretty basic in that capacity. For now, here are a few quick points and lots of pictures for you to peruse.
As you can see, Orko is about 2.5 inches tall, making him the smallest version of the character ever produced by Mattel. If you are keeping track, since Classics is also the LARGEST version of MOTU in terms of scale, that makes Orko much more similar in size to a certain 1980s animated version than ever before. If you are fan of that certain show, you should be very pleased.
Orko is surprisingly articulated, coming in at about 10 POA. Some highlights include a ball-jointed head and modified ball elbows (very similar to Elbros if you are familiar with the term).
Like all Classics figures (with the exception of King Grayskull) Orko’s head is removable.
A note from the Mattel crew states that this is, of course a sample figure and the paint on Orko’s ears will be fully corrected prior to his August release.

While Orko is a standard card figure, to accommodate the Prince Adam accessory, and to make a big deal of him at the Con, the card is much larger than the standard MOTUC card.
The Prince Adam “accessory” is based off of the He-Man base body, just like the vintage figure. The soft rubber vest is not removable. At least not EASILY removable.
Adam has two heads – the Serious Business head, which is the same as previous He-Man incarnations, and more friendly, not-a-care-in-the-world, all smiles head. I like the smile touch, and I think that will be my preferred display version.
Sigh, we are ONE member away from the Eternian Royal Family being complete. Please Matty, bring us our very first ever Queen Marlena figure in 2011. Pretty please. With a cherry on top.
Having Orko makes me want more Trollans. Yeah, I said it. They are fun and Orko’s bio helps shed light on the fact that Trolla is a big deal and that it’s residents are powerful magicians. So, we need Filmation to get Dree-El, Montork and maybe even Yuckers.
*Thanks for stopping by and thanks to the Magicians at Mattel for making this First Look possible. Like I said, stay tuned for more of them coming this weekend, maybe a certain Ghostbusters Look next. Oh, and be ready on August 2nd at Matty Collector to pick up your Orko!
