Tired of movies where people tell you to turn your brain off to enjoy them or to go in with the lowest expectations possible? Well, this week we take a break form the big summer blockbusters and check out Public Enemies, the newest Michael Mann film starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale.
Anyways, it’s a good film, better than I expected. I had low expectations for this based on the boring trailers. But, I didn’t feel it was great or very entertaining. It’s sort of a dry film.
I would put it in the American Gangster territory, looks amazing on paper, does everything right for a best picture nominee, but is just missing something.
All that aside, this is a great reminder of what a solid actor Johnny Depp is. He carries the film and makes others better around him.
Bale isn’t bad, but he had a small role in this, everyone did comparison to Depp.
I thought that looked like Billy Crudup, kind of random, as was MMA fighter Don Frye who I was praying had a bigger role with that all American mustache of his.
Yeah I’d recommend it, it’s as good as the trailers make it out to be. Nothing great, but a good film.
