This week we head back into the theatre with the latest Denzel Washington film by Tony Scott (Man on Fire), called The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.
Solid thriller and suspense film.
Story about armed hijackers taking over a New York subway train for ransom. Their leader is played by John Travolta, who is surprisingly entertaining in his cheesy and villainous role. He insists on dealing with the dispatcher at work for that day, played by Denzel. He’s forced to be a hostage negotiator.
The exchanges between them are great. Other good supporting roles are by James Gandolfini, the mayor of New York. He’s a Giulliani/Bloomberg hybrid and John Turturro, the actual hostage negotiator.
The performances and story are very entertaining and has a nice real time, time frame like 24 that keeps you on edge.
