Hasbro: Power Rangers Lightning Collection Mighty Morphin Ranger Slayer Review

My Lightning collection pre-order has started trickling in, one figure at a time, and today we are going to take a look at a comic book-based Ranger Slayer. Ranger Slayer is an evil alternate universe version of the MMPR Pink Ranger and I love alternate universes, so I was looking forward to this one. Let’s take a look!

I love the art style on these boxes and this one is no different. The box art has a really great, impactful, graphic appeal. My box got a little smooshed in transit, but the figure is fine.

Ranger Slayer comes with a removeable cape, a right chop hand, a left fist, two grip hands, the Bow of Darkness, a pink translucent power arrow, a blade blaster in its collapsed form, and a grouping of three arrows.

The three arrow group clips nicely into the bow for ease of bow wielding poses. The energy piece can also clip on there so it can be posed in mid-flight. The bow is cast in a silvery plastic and has a couple detail paint hits. I don’t love the look of the silver plastic as it has a cheaper overall feel and the detail looks a little soft.

The blade blaster is in collapsed mode so it looks good in the holster. I do wish they included multiple versions of this weapon so you could have it in blaster and blade mode too.

The alternate hands swap pretty easily and securely. I do like how her bow holding hand works pretty well for a pointer if she’s not holding the bow.

Sculpting on this figure is really nice and looks to be all new and has a nice and solid build. I especially like the costume seam details and all the scratchy battle damage on her thigh and knee armor. The shoulder pad is part of the cape, so that can sometimes look awkward, but I think it works pretty well. The cape rests on the shoulders lightly and sort of clips around the neck. I really like the windswept and battle-damaged look as it has a nice dramatic feel. The massive “eyes” of the mask call to my mind the lead character from Phantom of the Paradise, which for me is actually a good thing.

Articulation matches the usual Lightning collection set up with:

  • Swivel/hinge neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, wrists, and ankles
  • Butterfly hinged pecs
  • Ball jointed head and mid-torso
  • Swivel ankle and thigh

The figure moves well, though the ball in the head is mostly a swivel. The grip hands have an up/down hinge and the chop and fist hinge in/out.

Paint is fine, though I have a little slop around the shoulder pad. I think the left hand does have a hand guard that should probably be painted white. As usual with this line the helmet has some awesome gloss to it.

Overall this another fun one from the lightning collection. Oddly enough may favorite aspect is the clips on the bow and how they attach to the arrows. It’s just so simple and effective and not too fiddly which is quite unusual for a action figure bow and arrow.
