Hasbro: Star Wars Black Series Cara Dune Review

I found the latest wave of Black Series figures at Target on Friday so we’ll be taking a look at the figures this week, starting with my most anticipated figure, Cara Dune. Cara is a character from the upcoming Star Wars TV Show, The Mandalorian. Let’s take a look!

Cara comes in the familiar black series red and black box with the engraved-style character art on the front and back. It’s so weird to see that we are now in triple digits with this line! It honestly feels like yesterday when I first picked up X-Wing Luke at SDCC.

Cara comes with a blaster pistol, a knife, and a heavy blaster rifle. The rifle is pretty cool as it appears to be a double-barreled. I thought it might be a variant on some of the existing Stormtrooper blasters, but it’s slightly different. It does look like it was kit-bashed from old machine gun parts, so it’s got the Star Wars feel to it for sure.

The strap is a separate piece that swivels where it connects to the stock and hooks onto the barrel. Since you can reposition it, the strap is functional for holding the gun across her back, as a firing support, or just hanging there. My only complaint with this weapon is that it’s easy to bend the plastic on the carrying handle that’s on top of the barrel.

The pistol is pretty tiny, but is sharply detailed and fits well in the hand and the holster. There is a slightly shiny metallic paint that helps make it look more realistic

The knife is a fairly simple little accessory, but it has some detail to the handle and metallic paint for the blade.

It’s so tiny that it can be a little loose in the hand and I couldn’t find a sheathe for it, so I’m a little afraid I’ll lose it.

The sculpting on this figure is phenomenal. The likeness is fantastic and the uniform details are sharp. I especially like all the texture in the gray parts of her costume and intricate braids and twists in the left side of her hair.

Paint is good on this figure too. The face printing is very effective and the tattoos have a nice, natural quality to them. I’m also impressed at how well the tiny Rebel Starbird symbol tattoo on her left cheek turned out. It’s barely a couple pixels wide, but it’s totally readable as the symbol.

Hasbro also added some effective silver scuff marks on all the hard pieces of armor that reads well as battle damage.

The articulation is typical Black Series (for now) with:

  • Swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles
  • Swivel boots and thighs
  • Ball and socket head, mid torso, and lower neck

It all moves pretty well, though the long right side of her hair and high collar can hinder some head movement. I like that the elbows get more than a 90 degree bend and the double knees work and look great. The shoulder pads are static, but soft plastic, so the arm raising movement is hindered somewhat, but not too bad.

I fell in love with this character from the the start just based on her description as a former rebel shock trooper and her look. Hasbro did not disappoint and she looks amazing with the other characters from The Mandalorian. I hope I like her on the show!
