Okay, let me preface this by saying I had to clear out part of a closet and build a makeshift photo booth that’s larger than my usual backdrop to accommodate this thing. It’s not huge but it’s definitely larger than what I’m used to. My wife is going to kill me when she gets home but it had to be done. This is also not my usual light set-up so forgive me for the colors being off in some of the pictures. What I’m trying to say is, this was a pain in the ass.

So, the Batman: Arkham Knight Batmobile. Yup. San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. Yup. So you know this thing was going to get some fancy packaging. First of all, it comes in slip cover type outer shell that has a convenient handle on top to lug this thing around the convention floor.

Like I said, really nice. The minimalism sets the tone of the game in toy form. Or maybe I just thought about that too much. Seriously though, I’m a fan of black so this was right up my alley as soon as I pulled it out of the shipping box.

When you cut the tape and unhook a couple of tabs on bottom you are able to slip the outer shell off along with the handle, revealing a beautiful window shell adorned with details on the various action features. Really, again, if only I were a carded collector. This would be on a shelf or in a display case just like this.

On the back is schematics and an x-ray view of the vehicle, along with it’s different modes and specs for weapons, engine, and all that fancy jazz.

The Batmobile is strapped down with rubber bands, rope, plastic straps, and a couple of plastic keys. Hello exacto and wire cutters!

Out of the package I have to admit, this Batmobile is pretty damn cool. Sure, it’s a design from a highly anticipated game, but at the same time, this is a fun toy. The action features, the details, just a playability factor. Fun.

My favorite feature? Heh, the silver weathering on the front fenders. Hey, I’m a paint guy, I love stuff like that. Really though, there is a lot of nice little sculpted details all over the car. The vents, the Batman logos in the wheel hubs, panels. The one let-down in this department is the cab, or cockpit, or whatever you want to call it. Where Batman sits. It’s basically just a seat and nothing else. No buttons, no steering wheel, no upholstery, nothing. Ah well.

The action features is what sold me here, both the surprisingly well done sounds and the mechanics of the pop out and transforming parts. The battle mode is awesome. I took pics but my video review shows all of this in detail, much easier than trying to describe it all in text.

Say “Uh” again, Robo! One more time! It’s a drinking game!

Watch the video, the sounds are amazing. But my video review is missing one sound. After I finished shooting and editing and saving the video, my son, who had been playing with it, discovered a sound for the big cannon. You activate this by pushing both the cannon and gatling gun buttons at the same time which results in one big boom. My nine year old is smarter than I am.

As far as the Batman figure goes, he serves his purpose as driver of the Batmobile. I won’t get into the logistics of the scale and articulation, as I have my personal preferences and won’t bore you with the details. But like I said, he serves his purpose. And my son was excited to him, even though that excitement wasn’t near the levels of him laying eyes on the Batmobile itself.

If you’re a fan of the Arkham games or are jonesing for a Batmobile that is a great looking fun toy, try to pick this up. “Try” being the operative word, this being a SDCC exclusive and who knows what the window to buy this online will be.
