I still find it hard to believe, but NECA usually drops a tease on World Turtle Day for their SDCC TMNT release for the year and this year they did no such thing. It's possible there is no TMNT exclusive this year, though like I said, I find it hard to believe they would forego that. I suppose it's possible they decided to move the TMNT exclusive to NYCC this year, especially if there was a logistic issue. NYC has always made more sense for a TMNT release thematically, though SDCC is obviously the far bigger show. I guess we'll have at least some answers a week from now.
Hey, they're batting a hundred so far this year as far as SDCC exclusives that I don't need, so I won't be a bit put out if they don't do a TMNT one at all. I'm not actively seeking that kind of nerd-stress. 🙂
I'm in the same boat. While it's fun to see the convention exclusive each year, it's also just fine to not have to dish out $150+ for something. If Playmates is doing B&W sketch figures for SDCC, also entirely possible Viacom shot down a similar exclusive NECA was planning and forced them to move it.
If NECA doesn't have a TMNT SDCC exclusive, I will lose no sleep (or money!)...
As expected, there is a TMNT SDCC exclusive and it is indeed the first sketch turtles by Eastman and Laird. Everyone is now free to relax, panic, etc.
Also, sounds like old friend Veebs likely has an interview upcoming regarding this release:
This is a perfect exclusive because I don't care about it at all
Depending on what Hasbro & Mattel does, SDCC could be a very low stress time of year for me because so far nothing Neca or Super 7 has announced has really given me the urge to try and get it.
I dig these, they’re cute!
I might even get two sets since with the alt heads and weapons you could probably make them look like a quartette of ‘first Turtles’
I’m glad unlike the Mondo versions they went with alt expressions instead of the same face with an orange mask, I know the sketch is holding nunchucks, but it’s not really “Michelangelo” its a Turtle holding Nunchucks, just red is fine.
Also would not mind a future B&W (or really “white with black hashing” I guess) version of the set to really look like the Mondo vinyls.
$#!+. This is EXACTLY what I didn't want to happen, because these are EXACTLY the figures I'd been hoping they'd do and was pretty afraid they were gonna end up exclusives. I guess I get three chances to snag them now, but I'm not looking forward to the attempt....

So, I've been trying to parse this quote and I can't quite figure out if you mean they are 1 for 10 in things you DO want as exclusives or 1 for 10 in things you DON"T want as exclusives.
From the context of the subsequent sentence I'm guessing you're happy they are only 1 for 10 on things you might want, so you don't have to stress as much.
I'm happy so far there hasn't been a single NECA exclusive announced that I feel like I need.
Yeah up until these Turtles there was nothing I wanted and I was glad to avoid the stress of trying to get any. I was being a little tongue in cheek with the batting average comment.
I'm trying to convince myself I don't actually need multiples of these... I really, really don't. One set for sure. At least.
I wonder if they plan to release them singly down the line, without all the accessories since they aren't included in the original drawings. That'd be one way to get them out there outside the Con. And of course there'll be black and white versions released some way or other, I'd guess.

They're probably gonna limit quantities, at least online, I'd think?
Did this ever get brought up? Eastman was selling artwork for that leaked City at War Karai figure:
PS, you can finally see this on the back of the box for the SDCC exclusives, so it should be coming soon-ish.
