@normdapito I don't know that they'll offer it, but I can't imagine specialty retailers like BBTS and EE would say 'no' to being the ones to carry the final additions to the vintage MOTUO collection. Those figures seem to mostly do well for them (when they actually get new product and not just the product Walmart has been sitting on for months). And if they knew they were the ONLY source? Seems like a virtually guaranteed profit there.
But I have a feeling Mattel sees 'guaranteed profit' there too, and that's why they're just going to jack up the price for no reason and make them MC exclusives.
I hope, at the very least, they show some goddamn human decency and release more than one figure at a time. Because paying shipping outside the US for every release individually is some bullshit.
@canprime I missed your reply earlier! Yeah, I'm trying not to panic about Snake Mountain, but I do get flashbacks of all those Castle Grayskulls that were going for like 50 CAD on sale/clearance for a while. And the new Walmart aisles/layout don't even allow for boxes as big as Snake Mountain except as endcap or pallet displays so... that's a bit nerve-racking. But I also REALLY don't want to pay shipping on Snake Mountain.
I’m wondering when they’re going to reveal new product, as of now I believe we’re caught up on everything that’s been officially announced until the Cartoon Collection starts which I think is supposed to be a 1st quarter 2024 thing, but I can’t imagine nothing new between now and then, and that Turtle Masters series that totally didn’t leak online has to come out somewhere. I think the big info-dump was in March, there’s no way they’re going to go radio silent for six months, but there’s no obvious place for the announcement to occur.
@theknightdamien That could be it, I can’t keep track of when these things are and who goes to which ones after the last few years. There are so many things confirmed in words and heavily implied via packaging, I’m really interested to know where it all fits. The Cartoon Collection is a smart way to refresh things at retail even if “Filmation style” doesn’t mean a lot to me, I’m a lot more interested in 200X if they decide to fit that in as well.
I'm right there with you.
I am currently on the outside looking in with regards to Snake Mountain. However I am willing to be patient, especially now that I checked in on my local seller (DJC Collectibles). They were sold out of Snake Mountain, Point Dread, the Snake Men 4-pack and Skeleton Warriors 2-pack until recently. However all of them are now back in stock.
I got the Snake Men 4-pack and Skeleton Warriors 2-pack. When I went to pick them up he was sorting out his Snake Mountain orders. (which were sold out) However now on his site he has it and Point Dread back in stock with an arrival date of 2-3 weeks!!!
So we are in the early stages of product getting out to stores, and the big boys (Amazon, TRU, Walmart) haven't even started stocking them in real amounts (at least in Canada). So I'm going to be patient and wait and see because I feel like Snake Mountain will be readily available. Maybe not at discounted at Grayskull, but hopefully in similar quantities. I'll most likely bite at full price for the first one I get, like I did with Grayskull, but then I'll wait for a sale on a second one.
Plus I think we'll see a Snake Lair/Lady Slither Castle as a MC offering in the next year.
I have a question for you guys: Are all the latest waves with the snake men and such slated to show up at retail, or are the basically BBTS exclusives at this point?
I got a bit behind and out of the loop with this line and have been playing catch up with these the last couple weeks. I'm really kicking myself for not grabbing a Slamurai while he was in stock! And Am wondering what the deal is with King Hiss? I can't find a pre-order or anything like that for him anywhere.
@reefer-shark I don’t think I have answers to your questions, just conjecture on my part. I doubt bricks & mortar will be carrying much MotUO going forward until maybe they start refreshing with Filmation figures, since they’re more A-list. I’m pretty much relying on BBTS now, especially since Amazon canceled my comic Man-E-Faces and I can’t find a PO for him anywhere.
Speaking of POs, I didn’t realize King Hiss was also a challenge. I ordered mine whenever it went up for PO. I’ve had him a while so I haven’t realized he was hard to find.
Thanks for the reply @normdapito - much appreciated!
I did find the deluxe Snake Face a few weeks ago at Target, so I had a glimmer of hope, but I'm feeling like you're right, and mass retail won't see the current stuff. I'm going to go ahead and just place an order for all the stuff that I'm missing that's in stock at BBTS, and just hope for the best with King Hiss & Slamurai.
You finding Snake Face is the first I've heard of anything even remotely new showing up at retail. I think the last figures we got here was the Jitsu wave. If the Snake Face wave is showing up that's actually kind of confusing because I was under the same impression as NORM, none of this new stuff would be going to brick and mortar, just online specialty stores.
I'm getting a little worried for my Spikor and Sssqueeze preorders with Amazon. They were originally scheduled to ship Aug 30 but they've been pushed three times now and currently are expected around November 10.
@mikeysee I'm not putting any trust into Amazon after they canceled my Man-E-Faces. Big box is getting really unreliable when it comes to this line. Not as worried with Masterverse yet, but as characters get more obscure, there's fair enough reason to believe the line won't get the same support. Which bites for those holes that still need to be filled.
My unusually small BBTS package arrived yesterday. This one was just Sssqueeze and the Skeleton Warriors. Great stuff all around. Goddamn am I happy to have Sssqueeze. I'm so close to having all of my childhood favorites. So close.
So my son didn't really have much interest in Sssqueeze, but he was very excited about the Skeleton Warriors and has been eagerly waiting for them to show up. Guess which figure he played with the most? Sssqueeze. It's just a fun toy. He had a blast with all of them, though.
Honestly, I kind of wish the skeletons weren't GITD because there's some nice detail in the sculpt that's totally lost in that GITD plastic. Maybe we'll get some non-glow ones eventually.
@mikeysee Yeah, I've actually found him twice now. Both times at different Targets and both times just the one single figure. I suppose it's possible they were returns or something since I would assume they're would have been at least a case out at each store. I've also seen the Point Dread set quite a few times, but that's it for newer Origins stuff in my area since the Jitsu wave.
I've also seen plenty of Point Dread/Talon Fighter at both Target and Walmart. Which is cool, but also kinda strange. Cool that a bigger ticket item like that can still be found at retail, but if other vehicles are an indication, it'll surely hit clearance prices no matter how good or desired it is at the moment. But also weird because you'd think smaller individual figures would stand a better chance at retail. I don't know, I can't pretend to know the ins and outs of retail and marketing. Just making guesses.
Hey I just saw a post over on actionfigurenews.ca by someone in Calgary claiming to have found 2 Snake Mountains at Walmart!! So if it turns out to be true, which it should since the poster seems to be legit, then it could mean time to keep your eyes peeled.
I got Lady Slither today, and she is a really fun figure. I put on the Gorgon like lower snake body immediately, and that is how she will be displayed.
Two thoughts.
One. I hope they make every Snake Man that is on Lady Slithers box.
Two. While I really want Fright Zone, the more I see picks of the concept art for that Snake Lair, and now, seeing the Snake Lair on Lady Slithers box, I want this Snake Lair playset to be what won the fan vote. As KnightDamien said back during the Fan Vote, Fright Zone is almost certain to be made, being part of the vintage collection.
So, let it come in time. I want this Snake Lair now!
