@panthercult 🤣

In an ideal world, I'd agree with you. I used to agree with you. And from an outside perspective just looking at other peoples' collections, I still DO agree with you. The thing is... I support a family of four and we have a pretty normal-size home. With rising costs of everything, and just an absolutely insane amount of different lines to collect, I just no longer have the space or the finances to do all that world-building that I legitimately love so much. When I think about what's more important to me - a few figures of my favorite Marvel characters, or filling those shelf spaces with characters that appeared in like three issues of a mini-series 19 years ago... well, it's the variations of my favorite characters. Not because I dislike the latter - quite the opposite - but just because it's coming to a point where I only have room and money for my -favorite- things.
(And I've been informed that I cannot consider 'buying every character' to be my favorite thing.)

That being said, I'm absolutely not advocating for an end to ancillary characters. I hope they continue to prove insanely popular and continue being made until literally the well runs dry and no one even has any -ideas- for possible new He-Man characters. I'm just saying.. I can't really buy them, so I hope that mixed into all that awesome stuff are a few variants of my personal favorites.

@theknightdamien    OK...  we can be friends again...  😊

And I do get it.   Those tough space choices come up... and I have reprioritized and eliminated things from my collection that 10 years ago I would have thought impossible -   but the universe building persists.   I just have to be more selective about which universes get built  😆

@panthercult  See? You can't get rid of me that easily. My friendship is like.. herpes.. or something? I dunno.

It's been tough, man. I keep oscillating in my collecting between wanting to focus in on a couple of things and really build out a huge, impressive collection of loads of characters, and then getting annoyed with that because it's getting in the way of being able to have stuff from other lines/licenses because I just don't have the money/space for all of it. So I buy an entire collection of Star Wars, and then sell off everything but my favorites.. three times. Did the same with TMNT. And Marvel Legends. And and and. I am terrible at sticking to my guns.

I've had like three huge MOTU collections in the past decade. MOTUC.. then sold it all. Masterverse. Sold most of them. Still have my Origins, but they're not displayed because I keep those in a toy box for me and my son. But I'm sure they'll be displayed one day when he's older. I caught myself starting this cycle up again - buying a bunch of NECA Cartoon Turtles (again) and had to put the brakes on.

@theknightdamien Don't worry they have medications for that now.  🤣

I am in the same boat as you with both MOTU and other lines.   A couple years ago I couldn't have imagined ever parting with as much of my Transformers collection as I have in the past year.   However my desire for TFs has definitely waned and now I pick and choose very selectively.  I only have one Masterpiece left in my collection (MP-36 Megatron because it is just about perfect), and I have only a couple of Titans.  Same goes for combiners, all I have left is Predaking.

Now as to MOTU I am pretty much down to Origins only (thanks crappy Canada distribution), and even then it is pretty sparse due to everything being pretty much Mattel Creations only.   I still have all my Masterverse that I picked up, but I haven't bought a new one since Vykron.  Well no sorry I did buy the Roboto wave at Dollarama for $5 each, but that was $5 Masterverse figures so I kind of had to right?  However I have a lot of Origins, and I think I might be coming to that spot where I will whittle down the collection to main characters that I have an attachment to, but who knows.  Right now I have just my 3 different He-Man and Battle Cats displayed (Masterverse/Origins/CGI) while everything else is in storage bins.   I feel like I am collecting Origins mostly to collect, and scarcity, rather than enjoying the remaining characters.

As for space, well that ship has already sailed, but I do use the modified one year rule.   If I haven't displayed it, played with it, or even looked at it in a year I put it up for serious consideration to sell, trade, or give away.   I know the rule is more about after a year get rid of it because you clearly aren't using it, but I feel like there is just some stuff I still have an attachment to that can't just be tossed even though I am not currently enjoying it out in the collection.

Well my Night Stalker arrived today.

Man is it great in person.  I really love the colours, even more so in person.  Nice to have the alternate stand to go with Snake Mountain, even though I don't have Snake Mountain.   Oh well, it will be stored for now anyway.

Still no sign of Extendar, so my worry-wart self is going to contact Mattel Creations tomorrow to see what's up.

Oh MOTU......well Mattel...... 🤪

@canprime I can't do the 'one year' thing, or really any variation of it. Over time I've found that, with my current collection space, I just enjoy my action figures a lot more when there's fewer of them on the shelf at a time. So while I definitely could put more out, I don't. And even if I did, there wouldn't be enough for all of them, but that doesn't mean I don't really like what I have. In fact, while I used to be kind of against this, I'm starting to actually enjoy the idea of rotating out my display. But given how I'm displaying things, and how many figures/lines I collect, that could result in a lot of things being off-rotation for a year or more.

Definitely makes it trickier to trim things back and decide what I 'need.'

@theknightdamien I just got to a point where I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I had in my collection and I felt like it was time to scale back.  Especially because I didn't want to leave my wife and kids with a headache should something happen.

Don't get me wrong, there is still a lot of stuff, and I am overly attached to much of it, but I have been able to seriously sit down and be more honest with myself about what stays and what goes (again to a degree 😀 ).

I have tried rotating out stuff more frequently, but I find that I am sometimes just putting out stuff I don't like as much as what I already had out.  That, or I kind of make a mess of it because it is more stuff being out than I probably liked having out before.  Plus we replaced our A/C and furnace last year and I haven't gotten my display space back to what it was last year.  Hence the He-Man/Battle Cat only display right now for MOTU.

Without any warning, I got Lord G'Rasp in the mail today from Wal-Mart.com.  I didn't get Terroar yet.  And it doesn't say on my account that Terroar has shipped yet.  In fact, now it says Terroar ships August 17 instead of July 16.

I REALLY hope Mattel will give us a cartoon collection version of Battle Cat as articulated at Cringer here.

@salemcrow BOO!!!!

Boo this man and his wonderful suggestion!!!  😀

I hate to think of dipping back into Battle Cat, again, but I don't think I could say no to a more articulated version of Battle Cat.  I would begrudgingly pick one up from the Cartoon Collection to replace my Origins one, but I know it would be a slippery slope of sucking me into the Cartoon Collection, which I have managed to avoid so far (thanks crappy Canadian distribution).

I don't think they will... its possible and I understand the reason for wanting it, but the way all previous Battle Cats have hit clearance doesn't make me confident they could sell enough to make it worth it.

I think retailers would reasonably be nervous about the prospect.   Maybe a MattelCreations exclusive?

So the Origins Horde Trooper Prime and Necro-Conda figures are part of Walmart's Collector-Con next week.  They actually have quite a few interesting/good figures during that event.  I'm way more interested in Necro-Conda than I have the Horde Trooper Prime.

@ashtalon I was hoping for Necro Conda and the Horde Prime Trooper but then they were revealed to be Walmart Collector Con exclusives and I was bummed.

Walmart Canada doesn't carry the MOTU exclusives for Collector Con for some reason.

However Necro Conda was made available to local online etailers earlier this year and after seeing him in hand I was okay with passing on him.  If somehow he shows up again later I might pick one up, but not as desired as before (he basically looks too black/grey compared to the earlier shots).

Horde Prime Trooper looks to be a "first to market" exclusive for Collector Con, so hopefully that is true because that will mean other places can sell him at a later date.

Yeah,  seeing Necro Conda as a Wal Mart Collector Con item confused me because I have him on pre-order at BBTS currently.    So, its not entirely Wal Mart exclusive.
