Definitely bummed that Two Bad is the filmation version. I’ll be skipping it in hopes that they do a proper vintage Origins version later. Seems like they’d need to do a whole new sculpt though, no? I haven’t been able to look too closely at the pics but I don’t see scales.
I imagine Mattel would want to start tapping into She-Ra characters for Origins, as it would give them a new themed push for the line. Cartoon Powers of Princess figures probably make more sense for figures anyway, as their original toyline had rooted hair. So I can see Swiftwind happening, especially as they can get some mileage out of the mold.
I got my Night Stalkers in the mail today. I haven't opened them up yet, but that was quick on Mattels part getting them here. I'm so happy to have the two Robotic Horses. They were two of my favorites as a kid.
Even if they don't go far into POP figures in the Cartoon line, I have to imagine we will at least get She-Ra and Swift Wind and the Horde. And if we get Swift Wind, like PantherCult said, we might get Scare Mare.
My Target got cases of the Clawful, Sunman, Horde Troop, AntiEternia He-Man wave, the last of which I picked up to have as the rider for Night Stalker.
What do we hope/expect to see at SDCC? We’re caught up on almost everything revealed, but I’m not sure what to expect. I would have said Two-Bad but I can’t see them rolling out two versions while they’re trying to push the exclusive one. More information on Geldor and Demo-Man, plus a couple more of the missing faces from the original line and the crowdfund?
Yeah, I'd like to hear something about Geldor and Demo-Man. And then I'd like to see Origins Two Bad, Rio Blast, and Stonedar just so we know they are on deck and coming soon as we continue to get the rest of the vintage collection.
For Cartoon/Filmation I'd love to see She-Ra and Swift Wind, and maybe even 1 or 2 other characters from POP like Hordak, Catra, or Bow. And for He-Man and the MOTU I'd love to see Cartoon Fisto, Man E Faces, Ram Man, Whiplash, or Stinkor.
And surely, we will see something about the Lady Slither Castle Playset. But I wish we'd hear something about the remaining two vintage playsets, Slime Pit and Fright Zone.
I keep hoping they’ll make Gygor, a battle ready yellow gorilla seems like it would have a strong cool factor even if the character isn’t well known, I’m not sure how many chances they would get to reuse the molds aside from Shadow Beasts. As for the Cartoon Collection, I feel rather disconnected from it, I didn’t grow up on the Filmation show so aside from certain figures like New Adventures Skeletor to go with the He-Man we already have, there’s not a lot I really want to see them make for that line. Unless they decide to get into 200X, a lot of the new characters/designs from that show would be really cool.
I feel like the Slime Pit and Fright Zone are in need of a retail partner, they seem small enough in scale they can be made for an affordable price, I can’t imagine a crowdfund for something like that. If anything, I wonder if the Slime Pit will be made for the Turtles line with parts to make the classic version considering how often it shows up in the artwork on the cardbacks.
Has Mattel done any quick turn around releases of characters between Origins and Cartoon Collection? I know they are not above releasing a character in multiple lines, but I can't recall if they have done a quick turn around on anyone since starting the Cartoon Collection.
So I would imagine that we probably won't see another Two-Bad (Origins) until this time next year at the earliest (if at all). Hopefully I am wrong.
I think there may be a real chance there might be a Swift wind reveal or hint. And I think it's because Frightmare has momentum now, getting a figure from Mondo and Funko - Mattel is going to want in on that action but there's no way they want to tool up a horse as a one shot deal. Announcing Swift Wind allows them to immediately reuse the horse. Then they have it in the bank if they ever want to do Arrow or the horses for the Star Sisters or whatever if the line keeps chugging along.
Really hoping for news about Modulok and Multi-Bot most
Maybe we'll get some early peeks in whatever floor display they have set up this year as they have done in the past. So you might see a Modulok or Multi-bot first just hanging out in the display.
I'm hoping they have a copy of the Lady Slither/Snake Men Lair set up as well. Though I wouldn't be mad if they hold off on starting funding on it until later.
In terms of what I'd like to see at SDCC? Origins versions of Vikor, Rio Blast, and the Giants. That's basically top of my list. I'd also like to see a mainline (whatever that means now) release of New Adventures He-Man with a regular plastic sword. Perfect world, I'd also like to see NA Skeletor at the same time. And super perfect world, an Origins movie He-Man.
I didn't even think of that KnightDamien. I was thinking all the new characters I wanted to see, but I would LOVE to get Origins figures of NA He-man and Skeletor, as well as Motion Picture He-Man and Skeletor.
@supercamel-1982 Honestly, it makes me feel like such a basic bitch to be the guy that's always like 'I like He-Man variants in my He-Man line, Leonardo variants in my TMNT line, and Wolverine variants in my Marvel line.' But I do. I really do. At this point those variants are very close to being the things I want most. With prices and availability being what they are, I'm just way less interested in random ancillary characters than I once was.
I used to respect you KD... and now we must be mortal enemies... 😤 😜
I want the exact opposite from my figure lines. The broader the character selection the better. I don't mind the occasional variant of the main characters, I know what keeps things moving along, but some of that stuff I grin and bear it rather than welcome it. Give me the esoteric and obscure every time.
