My Sy-Klone arrived this morning and I'm in love. I had read that someone snapped a leg clean off upon opening, so I was careful with this, but he feels just as sturdy as every other Origins figure. (I gotta lay off reddit, all they ever do is break their figures. Clueless noobs.)
Anyway, the action feature works so perfectly, brought me right back to my childhood spinning the vintage figure around. It really was my favorite action feature of all the figures I had as a kid, but I eventually lost interest in my copy because I managed to pull the red rings off his arms and legs and never replaced them, and the lenticular eventually peeled off his chest. I wonder if I can restore that figure.
I can kinda see why they didn't give him a swappable lower body shaped like a tornado. That could have interfered with the action feature. I like the tornado hands, but will likely never use them. Maybe they'll work with ML Hydroman! Also I love the hula hoop accessory, and how it's got the option to hinge and be attached at the lower back and towards the shoulders. Love the accessory on the Classics figure, but love this versatility even more.
This might be among my top five Origins figures.
Well it looks like for once my fretting and worry might have moved the imaginary cosmic scales in my favour.
My Rokkon just got delivered. WOO-HOO!!
I love the slipcover card back because of being able to play with the figure and still keep the card/bubble fairly intact. I am disappointed though that they got rid of the extra brown shipper box for the figures (the one with the character art on it). It was a nice little extra touch and one extra layer of protection.
Rokkon himself is great, but I forgot how small he was in comparison to the standard figures of the line. Now where is Stonedar??
Now the wait for Sy-Klone.
I got Sy-Klone today, and I love this figure. Pretty much everything NORM said the other day, covers what I would say here.
It's just a great figure and takes you right back to childhood.
Got Sy yesterday. Never had him as a kid, but have to say he's pretty cool.
To those here in the US, be on the lookout at your Wal-Marts, as it seems they are finally marking down older MOTU Origins stock, and the prices aren't bad.
I've seen Moss Man for $15, Point Dreadd for $19, and Deluxe figures like Snout Spout and Leech for $7.50
It seems they are putting out basic figures as well on clearance ranging from $5-$7.
I've seen Jitsu, mini comic Stratos, etc.
As terrible as it sounds, I am actually glad that Necro-Conda is going to be a Mattel Creations exclusive. I really liked the design, and finding out it is a troop builder makes it even better. However when I thought it was going to be a Walmart exclusive I had no realistic chance of getting it outside of the secondary market. (Walmart Canada doesn't carry their MOTU exclusives for some reason).
Now that it is a Mattel Creations exclusive I have both the ability to actually order it (hopefully) and an actual chance to get it.
The last thing that I intended to do was go in on the Cartoon Collection, but I went and bought He-Man from a LCS. Then I picked up Teela, Beast Man, and Trap Jaw from amazon, and darn it, I'm digging them. Anyone else?
I also preordered Adam and Cringer before I opened these flood gates and I'm probably looking forward to them most of all. I hope we see She-Ra and Swift Wind soon.
@yojoebro82 I would definitely say a 'me too, sort've' to that. From the beginning I did plan on getting He-Man and Skeletor because I always like to get variations of those two. I didn't expect to bother picking up any others though. And I've got Teela. MAA is on the way. Pre-ordered Mer-Man. Pre-ordered Adam/Cringer. Definitely starting to look like a whole 'nother MOTU collection I've started.
I never really cared for the original MOTU cartoon. I watched it when it came out, but I was also a little old for it. So despite having memories of it, I don't have much attachment to it.
That said, I'm really liking the Origins cartoon figures. I have the first four and Teela and TJ on the way via BBTS. I preordered Merman, Evil-Lyn (I hope she's not as yellow as promo pics), Cringer and Clawful. Skipped on Webstor, as he honestly doesn't look much different than his original Origins figure. I don't see myself going deep with the cartoon figures. However, Origins is a line which just won't go away for me. I think I'm done and then another figure or two surface which I want. I will be interested to see if the cartoon line gets into monsters as well. Shadow Beast. Granamyr. etc. I can see those pulling me in.
@ashtalon Pixel Dan did a video recently with questions and answers from Mattel about MOTU and Evil-Lyn came up specifically. The question was about her not having her cape that she wore most of the time in the show and the skin colour of the figure being too much like the toy and not the show.
The answer was that production was too far along already and what you see in the promo pics is what will be released.
Really curious what happened with Evil-Lyn here. I mean, they... must know what she looks like in the show, right? Be weird to not even give it a double-check since it's supposed to be for 'the cartoon collection.' So it's just super strange for that figure to make it all the way to 'we can't make changes, it's basically done being produced' without someone other than customers noticing the problems.
I'll probably skip it and hope, but not expect, a re-do sometime down the road.
Also, hard agree on Granamyr and Shadow Beasts. I've got a soft spot for the Beast-Man-sized SBs of the Filmation cartoon over the mega-apes of the 2002 show. And Granny is always a win. Honestly, with this line coming, I'm a bit surprised we got a random snake tower playset crowdfund instead of a Granamyr crowdfund, because I really can't imagine they're just gonna do a proper Granamyr all on their own and just sell it. You know.. like a toy company.
It really is weird. I guess it shows that there's still a default vintage toyline mindset - original Evil Lyn was yellow with no cape, so here, even though it's the Cartoon Collection, to their eyes she looks perfectly fine yellowish with no cape.
They'd better not do that to She-Ra. Honestly, is a small fabric cape such an expense? I know Mattel likes to save money but...let's get it right folks.
Bummer about cartoon Evil Lynn, I'll probably skip her.
It's so baffling that stuff like this happens. You do a line specific to something but you don't work to get it accurate. Sometimes understandable if it's a brand new show that hasn't come out yet and you're working from early concept art. I don't know what the excuse is for a show that's 40 years old. Could someone on staff.....you know.....check to see if it's accurate to the source material?
Anyway, that's a minor gripe for a line that overall has been pretty satisfying.

Want to preface this comment by saying I'm not a NECA fanboy and have, indeed, criticized them plenty over the years. Particularly their customer service and 'if you move it and it breaks, that's kind of your fault because it's not REALLY a toy' attitude.
That being said - dude. Look at NECA's lines. They take the time to not just look over the material enough to get whatever they're doing right, but they can include tons of little accessories and nods to the source material because they've spent time with it. But over here we've got Mattel - the company that OWNS MOTU, putting a team on a dedicated MOTU line, and the people involved apparently don't watch the cartoon or look at stills?
I don't get it.
She-Ra is Mattel's April O'Neil moment. The one figure in a line full of home runs that isn't even close. Maybe she'll get a redo later in the line with a vehicle or big accessory or something to get fans to double-dip.
