According to the MOTU Instagram, the full Fall reveal is next Tuesday, so it’s possible they won’t show much this week, which begs the question of why even bother, but I guess we’ll see, there’s no previous Revealed event to compare to.
Thats really strange that Mattel would do that. You'd think they'd just show it all on Thursday. But a few reveals this week, and some next week is fine. It just seems unnecessary.
@theknightdamien Thanks for backing me up. I mean...assortments with A/B list character refreshes are in every successful action figure line. Seems odd to think they shouldn't happen. The farther you get away from those popular characters, the less likely a line will survive.
I do think it was amazing Origins survived at retail for as long as it did. Not sure what else they could have done to maintain its success. Other than maybe having Revelations designs in it as well, since it was the current media. Masterverse coexisting on shelves at the same time also kinda limited the success of both lines as they competed with each other for sales. If the cartoon line keeps it going...great!
That said, I haven't seen the cartoon line at retail. I've gotten mine online. I'll be curious to see how long the cartoon line goes and if it ends up at retail shelves (has anyone found them in retail stores?). I've seen the TMNT crossover line at retail. I imagine it's only planned for 4 waves (a guess on my part) for the year and that's it. Not sure how much spillover success for MOTU it's generating but it can't be hurting, unless retailers chose this line over having Origins in store. I wonder if Mattel would ever work out a deal to crossover with other properties like Marvel or Star Wars. I imagine SW might be tough, as Lucasfilm seems unfriendly (vibe I get) to play ball. MOTU/Marvel could be amusing. Or even a crossover with Conan/Red Sonja, although those would likely be online only.
I like the look for cartoon Evil-Lyn. Prince Adam is amusing, if only for Cringer. Curious to see what the entire Cringer looks like.
The only "confirmed" figure (other than cartoon Evil-Lyn) I really want is Two-Bad. Hope he's not too hard to get. There are a few more like Extendor and Rio-Blast which I'd like buy I won't feel horrible if I miss.
I am so excited about what looks to be a Cartoon/Filmation pack of Prince Adam and Cringer. Looks like we are also getting Evil Lyn. But Prince Adam is always a favorite of mine just because I love the colors, and then Battle Cat/Cringer is my favorite MOTU character and toy.
But we so rarely get Cringer stuff. So, I am really happy about this set.
As much as I have been griping lately about Mattel and MOTU, especially for Canadians (and International collectors), and the fact neither the Filmation or TMNT stuff has shown up anywhere at regular retail in Canada, I do have to say I am loving that they are doing a Prince Adam/Cringer two pack. It is probably the one Filmation item I will actually make an effort to find when it releases instead of waiting for a possible retail release.
I'm not getting the Filmation stuff (gotta draw a line somewhere) but I'll be trying for Cringer for sure. Hopefully being a 2-pack won't make it too terribly expensive.
If it's true they aren't announcing much tomorrow then I have to echo the "what's the point?" sentiment. I know Hasbro has done that a few times in the past but it's just always felt so dumb. Why hype an "event" for weeks only to leave fans with a few tiny morsels and then shadow drop/reveal a bunch of new stuff the following week? So confusing.
I know I'm likely in the minority, but of all the the things MOTU related Filmation accurate designs are by far my least favorite iteration of MOTU.
I love the more realistic filter Classics put things through or the even grittier aesthetic of most of the original toy line. The 200x and even the Revelations/Revolutions animated looks are more appealing to me. The smooth, cartoony simplified looks of the Filmation specific designs feel lazy and cheap to me (largely because the filmation animation was often lazy and cheap). I'm glad for the people for whom this hits that warm fuzzy spot - but man does it leave me cold.
At least there's the slow trickle of Mattel Creations exclusive product I can still appreciate for now. We'll see how long that can go on before He-Man packs into hibernation once again.
I was also confused when I saw there was another event next week to detail the plans for the year - I assumed that's what this 'Revealed' event was. Toy Habits posted on youtube about next week's event, so I asked in the comments how this was different. Somebody replied saying today's event is just about Creations exclusives. What great marketing, making us all confused :p
Making me even more confused, the Creations site says "You can grab the collectibles you see at Mattel Creations REVEALED as they’re announced during the show." Does that mean other stuff may go on sale today? I assume not, but man they are not making this easy!
Also, I'm kicking myself for ordering Snout Spout as soon as he was available to Canada a few days ago instead of waiting to include it in this order. He hasn't shipped yet but I assume there's no way to cancel the order?
Eight minutes later Sy-Klone appears to still be available for preorder, if anyone's looking...
It won't let me order him! It keeps saying technical failure for credit card and paypal. This is f****** stupid!
A half hour later and I STILL can't have one.
I got him and Snout Spout since SS was still in stock. $69 with tax and shipping... kinda upset with myself but Sy-klone was a must and I've been seeing nothing but glowing reviews for Snout Spout.
Got SyKlone in my cart but it's not taking my payment. I think i'm fucked.
A half hour later and I STILL can't have one.
Might want to see if your credit card has been declined or if your info doesn't match. Was able to order with a card with no issue. Screaming about it on a toy forum isn't going to help any, because it's a you thing not a Mattel Creation problem. Unless you're in one of the countries they don't ship to or something.
I couldn't get it to go forever. I eventually had to just use my checking account and not my credit card. But then I finally got it to go that way.
