What's the retail price on that Rulers of the Sun 3-pack? I'm going to need it but if it's in the $60 range, I'm going to wait for a sale or clearance price I think.
I feel like the 3 pack was $50.
Bummer - BBTS had to cancel my Tung Lashor pre-order due to not meeting minimum requirements for the second run 🙁
If you look at them closely, they're 2 half katana type blades that form a combined power sword type blade. Quite ingenious to me.
I noticed that. And don't get me wrong - I think it's really cool and interesting that they went with a 'katana power sword' that splits in two like the vintage power sword. Great. Love the idea. I hate the actual physical swords, though. I think the design is ugly and they're way too big.
I think it's mostly the giant oval shape and then the giant diamond shape on top of it. There's so much sword there that isn't even sword - just purposeless geometry. Chop the diamond shape out entirely and the swords would look way better and be scaled better as well.
Yeah, I like the look of Shredder for this crossover based on that art. And SalemCrow, that was genius! Not calling Mouser Trap Jaw "Mouse-Trap" was the biggest missed opportunity in history. On this planet or any other.
Honestly, this crossover is so f***** stupid! But in some idiot savant genius way, that's the beauty of it. They have no business being together, but they were the two driving forces of the 80's/90's toy world.
They were my 2 favorite things as a kid. And even though they don't belong, the figures look really fun.
Shredder looks fuckin' AWESOME. I cannot wait for them to reveal the actual figure. If it turns out 90% as cool as the art looks, that might be one of the best 'MOTU' figures ever. It's funny that you call it a stupid crossover, because the first thing I said to my wife when she showed the reveal to me (I had been at work and she saw it and showed it to me right away) was 'that's the stupidest thing I've ever seen.... I must have them all.'
But I'm betting they're $20 a pop, and I REALLY don't need to start yet another collection. I already spend so much on every other line! SO MANY other lines. It might be best if I didn't jump on.
Yes yes, it would be better for all of us if we didn't start new collections. But we all always do. Stop fighting it. Join us. Look at those stupid things. They're SO dumb, Norm! How can you resist how ludicrous and amazing they are? Just LOOK at them. Norm. Norm.... HE HAS A MOUSER FOR AN ARM-CLAW!
You're gonna get 'em. You know it. I know it. Save your pennies now and stop this farcical fantasy that you're going to resist.
@theknightdamien you are not wrong. Nostalgia, creative take, FOMO, all motivators for me despite diminishing budget and space detractors. Those are future me problems. Present me will likely preorder. Future me will see the preorder get filled (probably over the summer when I don’t work) and say, “gosh darn you, past me!” Present me in the future will play with them and sit in mild regret as if I had eaten too muc Thanksgiving dinner, but it will be worth it.
@normdapito I don't think anyone has better summed up the feelings of toy collecting in this age of mostly buying with pre-orders.... well done.
I’m surprised people think this is a dumb crossover, the 90’s kid in me who remembers some of the bizarre turtle variations that got made thinks these look tame by comparison.
Since there’s an actual story that has been written to go with these and He-Man has turned heel within, I’m wondering if a MOTU villain will switch sides to level the playing field, even for a one-off. Probably not, more likely they’ll make a second version of He-Man in heroic form, but it’s fun to speculate.
@theknightdamien I'm with you on the swords. They're pretty dang big, and the extra diamond definitely adds unnecessary bulk. But then, they're also just kind of over the top in a MOTU way, so I don't really mind them.
Re: dumb crossover, for me, that sentiment is drowned out by the "you got TMNT in my MOTU, no you got MOTU in my TMNT!" excited inner kid. (I haven't watched the weekly yet, has Robo made this inevitable joke yet?) Even with the wealth of TMNT products out there, I feel like these are the only ones I'll have in my collection that are toys that could, conceivably, be played with, compared to collector action figures, and that alone makes me happy. And it's a fun idea to have TMNT figures to blend into a MOTU collection. Forget the MOTU characters, these are worth it just to get some fun, unique articulated turtles figures. Of course, I was a TMNT kid, and got into MOTU with the 200x line in my late teens, so there's that.
TNI and a few others are reporting on the card back images, and we've got a samurai Beast-man and the slime pit, and a better pic of Shredder. After Man at Arms and Beastmen both having this samurai update, I'm not sure what to think about the rest of the MOTU characters. These remind me of those 200x samurai he-man and skeletor with the tall boots that just kind of...were. So far, still just sticking with the TMNT characters. Slime pit is a meh for me, but hopefully it can be retooled into a normal one for regular MOTU fans.
Anyways, pics:
Shredder really does look pretty sick.
I was pleasantly surprised by the new pics of the Walmart exclusive Necro Conda figure. It is going to have the Lady Slither tail (in blue) to allow for multiple display options.
Too bad it is a Walmart exclusive as I may never see it in Canada (outside of secondary market sellers).

I don't in any way want to whinge and bemoan this subject because it really IS NOT very important. My dislike of Leo's swords is just a small observation on a product range I think is awesome and super fun. But I do want to say this; as a huge fan of the vintage MOTU aesthetic, I actually -don't- think giant, anime-inspired goofiness is the same kind of goofiness as MOTU. At all. When you look at the range of weapons in the vintage line, the biggest swords were Tri-Klops/Fisto, and they were pretty normal-size and also very 'actual sword' shaped.
The ludicrous weapons is very much a 200x injection into the mythos that I absolutely despise.
Also want to say that I'm surprised some people (in general, not here) don't seem to be making the connection that the NINJA Turtles got MOTU-ized and the MOTU characters got 'NINJA-ized.' Sort've. There's clearly already a strong Japanese influence on the MOTU characters, with Oni He-Man, Samurai MAA, and Samurai Beast Man. I've seen complaints that there doesn't seem to be a method to how they're handling the MOTU characters and there very much clearly is, so far. And I really dig it. I wonder if they'll try redoing Ninjor or Jitsu - as those ones are already 'ready' for this kind of cross-over and I'd be interested to see how they'd ratchet those designs up.
Samurai MAA might be my favorite version of MAA ever. And god. damn. do I want that Shredder.
I was wondering if BBTS had He-Man and Beastman along with those new Masterverse figures. Preorder processing soon, two days after I shipped my POL.
Hah, Filmation Beast Man and He-Man are exactly why I waited to ship my PoL! (Also, I had just shipped an order a week before the Masterverse stuff went in stock)
I got the e-mail He-Man and Beast Man would be processing soon as well. I'm actually really excited about these. I can't wait to get them in hand.
It really looks like Mattel did a good job on these.
Mattel Creations is currently having a BOGO 50% off sale. So a bunch of stuff qualifies for the sale including the He-Man 4-pack.
Filmation He-Man hit my POL. I've only got a couple other things in there but I think I need to ship now. Gotta check that guy out, and shipping my POL at fuckin' BBTS still means I won't have anything in hand for a month or more. Hell, they won't even actually ship it for probably two weeks.
