The HACKS one just looks so good. The LC one looks good too. But something about the HACKS gives it an edge. Not sure what honestly, but its there. I think it may be the cloths? LCs are sculpted on, which is fine, but the HACKS one looks like it's a seperate piece which adds some realism.
It's not just one thing. The armor. The thicker limbs. The weapons. The face. The skin color. Not being in heels. BFS Red Sonja looks like it walked off the page.
You are not wrong. Can't wait for it to drop lol.
@red_ogre To me the LC one looks like a model cosplaying Red Sonja. The BFS one looks like Red Sonja.
There's a LOT of nuance to that though. Red Sonja has been depicted by hundreds of artists, all with their own take. Some give her a more athletic, warrior build, while others lean into the cheesecake nature of a scantily clad comic book character. There's merit in both styles, in all styles. I have LooseCollector's Sonja, and I like it a lot. It fudges with Super7's comic Conan well, and fits perfectly with LC's other Femme Fatales. I also pre-ordered Boss Fight's Sonja, hoping to have something that fits better stylistically with Mezco's One:12 version. I'm just happy that we are in a day and age where we've got choices that are excellent! You really can't lose.
Overall I wish there was a 1:10 Red Sonja option, but Tyris Flare kind of scratches that itch a bit. I have the LC Red Sonja and it's...ok. Looking at the two figures, the LC looks like a custom that someone made using an older Marvel Legends figure, while the Boss Fight version looks like a Red Sonja figure that was designed to be Red Sonja. And it costs less while coming with a whole lot more. I just wish it was bigger, because I would have bought it immediately.
I think I prefer the warrior build, mainly because that's what I think of when I think of her. She's like a barbarian herself, strong and powerful. The outfit is just a sign of the times. Thats basically what guys wore then too, just she has the upper bit to cover the nips. The more sexified builds are fine for Vampirella and Lady Death cause that's alot of their appeal, and mainly how they're drawn. They're more leaning into it. But Sonja, to me, should just be a straight up warrior. Not super jacked like Conan, but she should have some muscle on her.Â
If the Boss Fight version had come out first, I probably would have chosen that one. But it didn't, and I paid a premium for the LC one, so that's the one I'm sticking with.
I am curious. The Lady Death I got from Coffins website was like $50, and its an exclusive limited run figure. But the LC figures I see on BBTS are like $80. Is BBTS upcharging for them? LC Red Sonja is still in stock at BBTS for like $75 or something. So what is the normal price? I bought the black suit Vampirella exclusive, I'm guessing you can't get it too many places. And it was $80. Still in my PoL. Waiting for Wolverine and Sabertooth to hit before I ship it.
@hellpop Mind if I ask what premium actually is/was for that figure? If not it's cool. Again, I'm just curious about what good prices for LC figures are supposed to be.
Buying directly from Executive Replicas brings the figure cost down by itself, but shipping is like $15. I think BBTS basically charges what you'd pay for the figure plus its shipping cost at ER, with maybe a slight upcharge of $5. I got Sonja, Vampirella, and Shi all direct from ER, but Rocketeer/Bettie from BBTS.

By "premium" I just meant that it was expensive. in that $70-80 range, but to me that's a lot to pay for a 6" figure, even a nice one, so I don't want to just turn around and replace her. In a similar vein I have the previous 6" Rocketeer figures, but since they were only around $20-30 I don't mind getting the (much nicer) LC version to knock those off my shelves.
Â
Ahh ok. Yea, I understand the feeling. I think the $70+ range is also expensive for this scale, but the quality is hopefully there to justify some of it. MAFEX and Figuarts are around the same price wise, so I am willing to pay that much for a couple of the really good figures I want, of characters I really like. But I won't go all in on anything that expensive. If they were to make a Witchblade or Fathom figure though, I would heavily consider those. HACKS are seeming to be not as much, but those are still $50 which is still alot. Definitely not worth getting both unless you're rich or just don't like to eat lol.
So I finally got the black suit Vampirella and purple Lady Death in the mail. I must say, with how expensive they are, I'm a little underwhelmed. They're not bad figures by any means. They're nice. But I don't know why they're this expensive. Single joints, had to tighten some of Lady Deaths. Not so many accessories. The paints really good, and I like the sculpts. Vampirellas boobs are alot bigger then they should be. On the box and in the comics I think she's a solid C, maybe, and I get different artists probably draw her different, but these on her are like Es. Not that I'm really complaining, just an odd choice. And the hair on LD makes it really hard for her to pose, especially with the cape on. I think I may try to commission a cloth cape from someone for her, just to make it a little better if I can. They stand fairly well for having heels, and capes, and the big ass heavy hair. Vamp feels more solid then LD. Like better plastic maybe? Tighter joints, hands fit better. LD has a few issues with her hands popping out a little and, as I said earlier, I had to tighten some of her joints. Both her legs were wobbly when trying to stand straight up and her one knee needed tightening, it was shaking. Her torso joint also needed a bit, her being as top heavy as she is, it kept falling forward so she was hunched over alot. Also need to paint a little bit of the eye liner on one of her eyes, looks like it didn't get done.
So, I like them, I do. They're hawt, and pretty solid, nothing too gummy or anything. But I'm just not sure why they were so expensive. Licensing maybe? Small quantities? I've gotten Figuarts cheaper with better functions. Just sayin. Glad I'm getting the HACKS Sonja instead of springing for the LC one, especially since I like the look of it better. Kinda can't wait for her so I can put her next to these.
You’re probably already answering your own question. They’re expensive because it’s a small company that has to pay a licensing fee to make a limited run figure. I imagine their production run is going to be a fraction of the average Marvel Legend figure from Hasbro, which typically numbers in the five digit range. These figures probably aren’t more than four digit.
Yea. That makes sense. The purple LD was labeled as only 666 made. And I'm gonna guess Vamp wasn't a huge run either considering she was a BBTS exclusive. Or some kind of exclusive. Still, $80 feels like alot even for a limited run figure. Oh well. Have em now. No regerts lol.
Just saw the preview for Loose Collector's Death Dealer and Horse.   The Death Dealer looks pretty nice although not in an armor I've seen before.  The Horse appears to be well done, but I just don't really find myself in need of horse figures and I certainly don't like when they are a mandatory add on for a figure I might otherwise want.
Â
Insult to injury is that the asking price for the Death Dealer plus Horse package is $350.  That's HasLab level pricing for an action figure and horse combo and that makes this such an easy choice to pass on.
Â
If it was half that price, I'd think it was a bit pricey but it would be in line with 4 Horsemen pricing and I could maybe swallow it.  Â
