On this Hobgoblin topic, there is an entire controversy surrounding that storyline and the reveal of Ned Leeds, the Roderick Kingsley retcon, etc. Not even factoring in Jack O'Lantern taking up the mantle for a long while. So, who knows which version the MCU would actually end up using. I would imagine it would be some kind of mash-up of all of them. Heck, Ned could even be framed for it in a movie also. Marvel has options there

@e-rock hm, that's a great point. I am totally down for Ned being a red herring.flash as well. Hell, make Kinsley a red herring too so the comic fans are thrown.

Yeah, to be fair, when it was first revealed as Ned, it *was* intended to be true but the original plan was Kingsley in spite of the very bumpy road that was his identity. My real issue is just with people's odd insistence that Ned was Hobgoblin in the comics and so will be Hobgoblin in the MCU, it's... oddly grating as a lifelong Spider-Nerd who knew and would happily tell you that Roderick Kingsley was Hobgoblin at like, age 7, to now see even the people MAKING the movies flubbing such a simple thing. That and the fact that MCU Ned has nothing in common with 616 Ned besides a name, so the identity issue is even further removed cuz he's just a means to an end, that end being comedic relief... which is even more odd when we're talking about a Spider-Man movie but I digress.

Still riding the high of getting three of my favorite movie villains of all time this year and that we're getting the Final Swing suit. This was really our last shot at it. Even when watching the movie I remember clearly thinking "Damn that's a good suit... it's SO getting replaced in the next movie." I see it falling to a similar fate as the Homecoming suit did, occasional appearances to bridge the gap from the last movie to the next before being ditched for whatever new, shiny thing they throw him in.

Well *I'll* stand up for the figure and say I'm very happy with Sandman! Yes, the lack of artic at the waist is odd looking and threw me for a loop too at first but with the ab joint, he really doesn't need it. He definitely would have been helped by a darker shade of brown though, like others have said, he looks finger lickin' good and that's... not ideal. NWH Flint was a REALLY dark, muddy brown, I quite like the darker look though and wish the figure matched it closer... all that complaining aside, the unique sculpt is great and I never leave my figures fully stock anyway so what's a black/dark brown wash really?

I’m not even a fan of the Raimi movie villain designs (or even the movies themselves) and I think Ock and Gobby look amazing. I really, really, really hope the hood fits over the masked Goblin head because then it would be absolutely perfect. And they picked all the right elements to emphasize with Ock and his muted color palette just feels groovy. I think they look cooler as toys than on-screen.

Final Swing is gorgeous as well. That and Garfield Spidey are two of the best Spidey figures ever and truly feel like a “real world” read on the actual comic book suit. Great stuff.

Matt is cool, but I have a feeling his head is going to get replaced with Willem Dafoe’s head from the Goblin set.
Sandman is amusing. I mean, that’s what he looked like in the movie, and he sort of approximates what the comic version of the character would look like as full-sand as well, so he’s fun on principle.

I think all that stuff you mentioned was just a nod to Ned's connection to the Hobgoblin in the comics, not trying to allude to him actually being the Hobgoblin. Heck, the line about not turning evil just seemed like a joke about the people who inexplicably expect him to become Hobgoblin. Like, c'mon, identity debate aside, they're not gonna randomly turn the comedic relief character into a supervillain (I hope).

Did the 3 Peters sell out on Amazon already?  or did they not turn on the listings? The other figures in the wave are still up.

Yep the three Peters sold out on Amazon. The first was Maguire. I was able to secure 2 of Garfield and 2 of Holland last night on Amazon sometime after 6 but Maguire had sold out before that. EE is offering free shipping on the wave and the singles which will last through the weekend. I grabbed 2 of Maguire from EE and the wave.

Doubtful, they didn't make Morbius, but maybe if it makes Venom money they'll take a swing at it.

That's definitely possible! It just... it insists upon itself. lol.

Search your feelings, you know it to be true. Trust me, I am *not* happy about it cuz aside from wanting a fat spider on the back, I would be beyond happy to see this suit LITERALLY NEVER LEAVE. At least it's an almost 100% chance the new shiny thing is just a Symbiote Suit instead of some kind of *unholy abomination* like the Iron Spider or Integrated Shit-I mean Suit.

I'm still with you, but I'm definitely into Ned being one of the red herrings for Hobgoblin. Like I said before, they never got into the mystery of who was Green Goblin, you got to see his origin right alongside Peter's in the Raimi movie. So having Hobgoblin's identity being a plot point for most of (presumably) Spider-Man 4 would be a great choice, and along the way you've got to have some red herrings.

Yeah, I agree that's a given. I would think a black suit would be the replacement. As long as it has a large, white spider on front and back rather than just the same suit but now black and silver, I'll get that damned figure too.

Yeah, I think this is probably the case. Just a wink.

I agree. I hope they do a Kraven figure but will be surprised if, a) it makes that money and b) it gets a figure. The Venom figure came out a lot later didn't it? I assume two years after the figured out there would be demand? I get that thinking but for me at least... I don't even need to like the movie (or show) to want a figure from it. Case in point, Book of Boba Fett Boba Fett. Hell, I wasn't even really a fan of the Venom movie and I ordered that figure as soon as it went up. I don't think I'd even seen the movie yet at that point. I'd get at least most of the cast of the New Mutants movie as figures and still haven't seen that movie either. Some of the desirability for figures of these characters goes beyond the movies they appear in.

But I'd still like if they did a Sony wave. Carnage, Morbius, Kraven, hell, Electro and Lizard with Topher Venom.

I'm wondering this too so I can be 1 step closer to having a live action OG Sinister Six.

A couple things to consider, it took them almost 10 years to get an MCU Quicksilver out and the likeness to Aaron Taylor Johnson is so off I wonder if he has likeness issues. But maybe the 'Quicksilver' character was tied up with Fox rights. I don't recall him getting a figure outside of Hottoys in any scale during AoU.

Another thing is, I don't think Sony is spending the money to nail down actor likeness rights. I have a feeling this NWH wave was a struggle for them. I'm not even sure how they managed Ned, JJJ and MJ tbh. Vulture, Mysterio, and Venom are all lucky because they don't show the actor's face. But then there is the argument for why a Carnage was never made. Does Vampire face Mobious still count as Leto likeness? Aunt May technically debuted in Civil War so does she have likeness issues or is Hasbro just passing her up? I worry about characters like Kraven, Spider-Woman, Black Cat, Miles Morales even. When it comes to them getting figures.

None of this answers your question lol. I'm just really intrigued by the legal behind the scenes of it all when it comes to Hasbro and Sony. It's interesting and a little frustrating haha.

This short phrase really sums up both companies, I think. 🙂

I think the lack of a Carnage speaks to the probable lack of Kraven - but the year delay does give Hasbro an opportunity to make a figure based on the artwork on the poster, since that may be the first time they're seeing reference. Sony just doesn't seem to be interested in securing likeness rights for Marvel - I guess their merchandise cut isn't big enough. (Which is absolutely typical of short-sighted Sony.)

AoU Quicksilver got a 2" little toy from Hasbro, along with SW - but that was it. And we still haven't gotten a real figure of her look.

Well... six years to make that Quicksilver, but yeah the likeness was still off. It would be funny to do a custom Kraven with that head as the base, heh.

I also only JUST realized the villains they haven't done yet from NWH are both from Garfield movies. Did they just completely screw up the licensing for those movies or something?

Probably! Though Lizard shouldn't be a likeness issue.

Because Sony doesn't make money (or as much money) on the billions of dollars of Spider-Man merch, they probably don't secure the likeness rights they should - or allow the actors/reps to demand compensation and/or approval, which could set a precedent. And no offense to Leto or Dakota Johnson - that shouldn't happen. And Sony just doesn't care about the millions in potential merch they are missing by not getting those rights.

(Personally, in these franchise exercises, if a new actor won't give likeness rights, I wouldn't hire them. That simple - and I'm shocked the studio accountants would allow 000s of potential merchandise sales to be held up in a situation like this.)

Foxx got a say over how he looked the second time around and because they needed him, he probably got merch approval. He also had a major health issue earlier this year so it could be he didn't approve during the window he needed to, so he's coming later, and they possibly delayed Lizard to not make it obvious? Or didn't want to release three $50 deluxe figures at the same time.

Also - new wrinkle - all three Spider-Man waves this year were Retro cards without BAF. I wonder if that also has something to do with Sony - because wasn't Cyborg SW supposed to be?
