Ooh Absorbing Man. That character hasn’t gotten enough love lately.
Absorbing Man is a good one!
I have no doubt that DST could nail Absorbing Man after all of the figures they've been releasing with cool effects and swappable parts. He's not very high on my list, but it sounds like it would be one of those figures I'd fall in love with as soon as I see the execution (e.g. Mr. Fantastic).
Yeah; Select needs to continue the classic Spidey villains. They are some of the best figures they've made.
It would be amazing if Marvel Select kept the Armor Wars theme going and made a figure of Firepower!
I have been wanting a Firepower for ages, as that was the Iron Man era of my youth. But as cool as he is, I think his, what, two-issue appearance makes him officially OBSCURE.
I think the rest of the Armor Wars gang are also either obscure (Stingray, sorry) or kinda jokey (Stilt-Man). Ditto Orca, and anyone else who fought the FF in Acts of Vengeance (Plant-Man, etc.). I'm sure ML collectors would love for us to make an Orca, but I highly doubt we would sell that many.
While he's been around since the 1960s, had his own summer event, was in Wakanda Forever (did he talk?), AND would make a cool toy, Attuma is STILL kind of obscure. Heck, we haven't made Namor yet, a character I push for regularly. But then, I'm not sure I ever read Atlantis Attacks, or more than a few Namor comics.
On the other hand, I (and others on the team) love Iron Man, and Titanium Man has been around since the 1960s, looks cool, and is a pretty major Iron Man villain through the ages. He actually appeared on a Fwoosh Top Ten Most Wanted Large Marvel Selects fan poll several years ago. (Fwoosh Marvel Select Top Ten (thefwoosh.com)) Granted, I'm not sure if a suit of Titanium armor still exists in the comics, but he's a big guy in armor and he makes for a great toy.
Beta Ray Bill has made regular appearances since the 1980s, had his own mini-series, and is basically a cool-looking Thor. I think there was at one point a rumor he would be in Love and Thunder, but even if not, we have a big BRB fan on the MS team.
Absorbing Man has regularly fought Thor and the Hulk, and was KINDA in a movie, so I like his chances. He has a better chance than Bi-Beast, anyway.
Thanks for taking the time to shed some light on how character selections pan out, @msword ! Not gonna lie, I'm now really hoping for a MS Absorbing Man. I get why the others are more obscure and wouldn't be cost effective decisions. Having said that, I'll take whatever I can get!
@msword Please keep up the Iron Man love!
And Titanium Man is still wearing his classic armor in the comics now! Love the Select Titanium Man!
A MS Absorbing Man would be great. Now whatever characters you guys do I'm looking forward to. Will Annihilus and the new X-Men be at NYCC?
😮 Ooh, what about MS 80s Shadowcat?

Namor is my pick from this list. Survived Golden Age Marvel to be a very prominent character in the F4, Defenders, Avengers, and X-Men. He’s like Roy Kent, he’s here, he’s there, he’s every-fucking-where.
Can't help but notice MSWord was quick to deny classic Iron Man, but not modern Iron Man or War Machine, which were both mentioned at the same time.
I don't think they'll make another Iron Man for a while. ML tends to alternate modern and classic looks. Not sure if MS does the same. Either way, I imagine we're a few years away from another Iron Man.
War Machine. I like the semi-recent ML version, but it's not perfect. If MS makes him, I hope his forearms rotate unlike the ML one. Rotating the forearms would really help with aiming those forearm cannons.
They’d also need to upgrade classic Thor. That figure had some very dated articulation below the waist.
Does MS upgrade figures? IE the same costume they're already made? I suppose Cap is a 2nd crack at the classic look. It seems like MS often just chooses a different look for a character. Maybe with classic Cap getting a redux, classic Thor's chances have gone up. I know I've mentioned it before, but Simonson Armored Thor is a unique look for him. Has never had an action figure, outside of Minimates (DST has some love for the look). And he comes from a similar era to Silver Centurion Iron Man.
I appreciate MSWord talking about the low chances of some of the characters wishlisted. Orca? Sure, I'd love him. But there's no way in hell he'd move enough units. Probably wouldn't even get enough preorders to meet minimum orders. I know I mentioned Death's Head as a want, but I'm totally willing to admit he has a low chance of being made. He does have some crossover awareness from Transformers fans and is probably more visually interesting than Orca.
Could armored Mandarin from Acts of Vengeance apply? AoV was name-dropped but regarding the minor villains in it. Could the mention of AoV be a hint at armored Mandarin from it? Is it a popular enough look to warrant a MS? ML has been avoiding Mandarin, so maybe a MS Mandarin would garner some extra sales from ML fans.
