I've found the RYV Spidey to be a bit too bulky and tall when stood with other Legends. It makes for a really good DD, but too big for Spidey. I also think the head on RYV is a bit odd. I bought 4 of them expecting it to be the best ever, and I do sometimes use it in photos as my go-to modern Spidey... but often revert to the Retro for New Avengers era photos.
I love the size of the Max figure, but it is undeniably 90s specific. If they release it with brighter colors and a classic head, you have a default Spidey.
Yes, all valid points. I'm not super wild about RYV's default head either. But the Peter Parker head that came with him is infinitely better than the one that came with the Maximum figure.
I guess I'm just getting a little tired of buying the same figures over and over again every time a new "best ever" version is released.
I was absolutely steadfast in my assertion that RYV would be the last red & blue "classic" Spidey I would ever need.
Then along comes Maximum Spider-Man and I get a serious case of FOMO and order multiples of that figure. "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" [sigh]
When it comes to Spider-Man and Wolverine, I've been getting the "ultimate" figure and then upgrading it a few years later since 2001. First Spider-Man Classic release - they'll never do better. ML3 Wolverine? Sure it's tall and missing some articulation, but the best figure that will ever be made. Toy Biz McFarlane Spider-Man... Pizza... retro - all were king for a while. Characters like that will always get something crazy, new and innovative. I can't say I mind.
I don't mind them continually upgrading the figures... I do mind when they double the price to do it
I'm content with RYV Spidey as I'm mostly X-Men centric anyways. At a certain point one has to realize "do I really need all this stuff?" I'd be interested to see what a Maximum Wolverine, Gambit, Psylocke or Nightcrawler looks like, though given the tendency toward a modest upgrade and just a lot of pack-ins, I don't even know that I'd buy them.
And let's be honest. Either Hasbro keeps the Maximum series prices constant (or increasing, as with the times) or invariably these will end up being discounted too as they switch gears toward some other marketing campaign. The deluxe Phoenix was "ultimate" enough for me, as my figures mostly get posed and then sit, I'm not constantly playing with them like when I was 8. Pleased/grateful with what I have. Hoping for a few others I'd like. Beyond that it's just a pleasant plastic distraction and I don't need to become a toy archivist to feel fulfilled.
Got my 2 Spider-Men. No paint or quality issues, that you'll see magnified on the socials. Poses like a dream and it's the ideal Peter I've waited for. A beyond worthy successor to Spider-Man Classics Series 12 Spidey.
It’s only “magnified” if it didn’t happen to your copy.
Or it's magnified because it's the same 3 images being posted across multiple platforms, by people who do not even own the figure, to rage farm engagement.
Do better.
I don’t need to. I’ve seen different figures posted different places with problems that a $50 figure shouldn’t have. Yours didn’t? Great! But don’t act like the people that didn’t get as lucky don’t have valid complaints. Or that, since it didn’t happen to you, it’s being blown out of proportion.

I was going to say that you're not so stupid as to fall for the inflated hysteria around this figure, but then, unprompted, you mentioned the price, and it's clear where your inane ramblings originate from.
Yeah... anyone who mentions the price of an item is just too poor to appreciate it and is jealous and stupid and should shut up already... gosh...
That's exactly what I said, I'm glad you were able to decipher that.
Objectively, I believe the paint issues or other random QC instances have been outliers. Less than .5% - but with a $50 price tag... it WOULD sting. A lot more than usual. Thankfully, I buy most of my Legends from GameStop, and because I have EDGE/ONYX, they do defective exchanges, which include paint defects and straight up snapped limbs (great for McFarlane DC figures).
Anyway - the figure IS great, one of the best, indeed very highly priced - and any issues would be significantly more annoying than usual due to cost. If you couldn't swap the figure, that would be enraging. That said, I really don't think the QC stuff is that prevalent at all. I have only seen the same 3 or 4 photos circulated by the same like-minded folks. If that helps justify the decision... cool. If the price is something you are comfortable with, it should not be a realistic deterrence. I got 3, all were in perfect shape and I have zero regrets. They are my favorite Spider-Man Legends, and even AFTER paying the high price for 'new-sculpt tax' and the accessories, I would gladly buy another release on that body with a classic head and lighter blues/reds. Hopefully it will be priced closer to $25-30 USD with just hands and maybe another head... everyone wins.
Or a symbiote version 🙂
Anyone finding Spidey in Target or Wal-Mart?
@jroug The quick answer is no, but quite honestly it's very rare for me to ever see Marvel Legends at brick and mortar retail so I pre-order everything that I want. If and when I do find them at brick and mortar retail it's usually quite a while after I already have them in hand from online retailers.
I bet these Maximum figures show up at GameStop soon, if anyone is hoping to find them at bricks and mortar retail.

Man, you are certainly condescending. I will give you that. But you’re not quite as superior to others as you try to be.
I’ve mentioned the price before. I can’t help it if you missed it. It’s hardly a secret I think it’s overpriced. At that price, it’s not worth it to me. Even if the QC was perfect. Doesn’t matter. But I think it’s foolish to dismiss problems that others have simply because you don’t have them.
Also, I think hysteria is overstating the situation. I for one am not too bothered by passing on this. Off the top of my head, I have at least 5 ML Spider-Man figures in the regular costume. I’ll be ok. But I don’t want this line to start a trend of locking popular characters into a $50+ price point. Eventually they’ll hit one that I do want. And I’m not sure I can justify the price to myself. Except for the Merged Hulk. It would have to be an egregiously over-inflated price for me to pass on that.

That's mostly why I didn't go for it. If it was just a better articulated Spidey for $25 without all the accessories I don't need, I'd likely have bitten. Oh well, as you say, I have plenty of Spideys, it's not like I'm hard up for one.
