The final figure featured from Funko’s Magic: The Gathering Legacy line this week is the pyromancer Chandra Nalaar! Chandra has an interesting design, merging elements of medieval armor and clothing with a bit of a steampunk aesthetic. Her bio on the Wizard’s website describes her as rebellious and she certainly conveys a bit of a punk feel as well.
Accessories
Chandra comes with a lone flame accessory that she can hold in either hand.
The flame has a nice look to it, though I think I would have preferred a more translucent plastic and a second one so she could dual-wield the flames.
Sculpt
The details here are fantastic as I’ve come to expect in this line. I especially love all the detail in the rings in her chain mail shirt.
The face is very beautiful and she seems to have a very slight self-satisfied smile.
Articulation
Chandra has the following articulation:
- Ball-jointed neck, head, and upper torso
- Double-jointed knees
- Swivel/hinged shoulders, hips, ankles, and wrists
- Single-hinged elbow
Movement is good on all the joints. The shoulder pads are connected at the bicep and are very soft so they do not restrict movement.
The skirt is really soft and does not restrict movement.
Paint
Paint is really good on Chandra. The skin is cast in a semi-translucent plastic that I’ve been enjoying on the other figures in this line.
I usually like painted faces, but this plastic has a nice quality to it.
The detailed outfit has a lot of small, clean detailed paint hits that look fantastic. I like the metallic quality on the armor bits, though I do miss the dark wash on the chain mail we saw in the prototypes.
The hair has a couple layers of orange paint, and though like the flame effect, I think I would have preferred a more translucent-plastic look.
Chandra was the figure in this wave I was least looking forward to, but after playing around with a figure a bit, she’s become a favorite.
The poseability is excellent and her outfit is really cool, and I like the addition of the steampunk elements in the armor.
