Disney Star Tours – Huey, Louie, and Dewey as Jawas

My wife and I recently took our two-year-old daughter to Disney World (it begins!), so I welcomed the opportunity to hunt for some Disney-related merchandise while meandering through the Magic Kingdom. While there certainly wasn’t a shortage of things to buy (that is, after all, the entire point of the park), I was left kind of disappointed in the action figure/figurine offerings. I am sure those wouldn’t be the most popular items at the park, but damn it — I want some good toys of classic Disney characters! Even still, I found that most Disneyana (yes, that is a thing) also left our buying options for three of my all-time favorite characters: Donald Duck’s nephews, Huey, Louie and Dewey. Those three (and Chip and Dale) have always been some of my favorite Disney creations, but I really had to scour the park to find a take-home of my liking that featured them.

Am I crazy for thinking it is strange for expecting more merchandise of Donald’s nephews? I don’t know, maybe it is, but at least I was able to find something that combined my favor of them with something else I love: Star Wars. Yep, Huey, Louie, and Dewey are featured in the Disney/Star Wars mash-up line to support the Star Tours ride. Pabs brought me Chip and Dale as Ewoks from the park in Paris, and I featured them a while back, so I am glad to add these three to my shelf as well.

Like Chip and Dale, I think the designer of these figures did a good job of blending the jovial feel of Disney with the requirements of the merged Star Wars characters. I think these “little” guys are put into the roles of other “little guys” based more on their stature, rather than personality. Let’s face it, Mickey is always going to be Luke Skywalker, but nothing really says “jawa” to me when considering Huey, Louie, and Dewey save for their size. That is okay, though. The figures are fun, and, at this point, I will take any excuse to get these three incorporated into a Disney figure line.

The three come in some pretty standard jawa robes, with their famous corresponding outfit colors of red, green, and blue represented in the sashes along the chest. Their faces are obviously not obscured and their playful personalities come through quite well. They all have unique face sculpts and while Huey and Dewey look playful, Louie has more of an ornery expression.

The figures are pretty limited in terms of articulation, but being super-poseable is not really the point of these, they do have neck twists, shoulder cuts and wrist twists. The paint is about on par with what I found with Chip and Dale. It is not perfect as there is some slop and bleed here and there, but their small size doesn’t help with that. These large pictures show off every wart, but in actual size, the paint is not bad at all and is probably a slight step above the chipmunks.

The set also includes some appropriate droid junk parts. Jawas are the salvage/mobile junkyard dealers of Tatooine, so having some scrapped pieces is fun for this set. At the very least, getting three figures plus some accessories makes this set feel like more of a value than the Chip and Dale set, and that is important considering you are already paying a jacked-up price at a Disney park to get them.

So six months ago I did not think I would own ANY Star Tours sets, let alone two, but here we are. While I love the mashing of Disney and Star Wars, the attachment to Huey, Louie, and Dewey was the main reason I got this set. I am saddened to this day that there is not a good action figure line of classic Disney characters in their iconic looks, so I will take what I can get. I do hope that the next time I wander into the Magic Kingdom, there is more merchandise of Huey, Louie, and Dewey to pick from. Get on it, Imagineers, or what ever you are called. This is a fun set that I do recommend, but you have to head to a Disney park or the closest eBay search inquiry to find them.
