Shokoti is the second Club Filmation figure and one of my most anticipated Masters of the Universe Classics figures. Let’s take a look at Shapoopie…uh…Chipotle…Shokoti!
Shokoti™ Bio
Real Name: Shokoti
Possessing incredible powers fueled by darkness, Shokoti™ was the most dangerous sorceress on the Dark Hemisphere of Eternia®. Fearing her plan to cover the entire planet in darkness, Shokoti’s fellow blue-skinned Gars lured the nefarious witch into the sunlight and buried her with her beast companion in the House of Darkness. Many years later, the shapeshifting wizard Masque raised the temple from the Sands of Time and opened the door to darkness once more until He-Man® heroically defeated Shokoti™ and the Sleeping Beast forever. Shokoti™ uses the darkness and magic to cast illusions and project energy blasts from her hands.
There is a tidbit of new information here, which is nice. Shokoti has been assumed to be Gar by fans due to the blue skin, so it’s pretty cool to see it confirmed in a bio.
Beyond that, it’s a basic retelling of the bio, which is fine with me.
Shokoti comes with a removeable cape and one of her tentacled darkling creatures.
The darkling is a great little creature with a detailed warty skin texturing, a leering eye on a disgusting stalk, and three disgusting searching mouths with lurid chalky blue lips.
It’s an amazing little monster, and you can feel the love of the grotesque coming off this thing in waves.
The only problem I have with it is that there is only one and there is no flight stand. I bought a second Shokoti because I wanted a couple to flank my Shokoti, which is not an insignificant expense for such a little chunk of unarticulated plastic no matter how well it’s sculpted.
As you would expect, Shokoti reuses Octavia’s body with Adora’s boots and a newly sculpted head, leotard, and cape.
The head sculpt matches my memory of Shokoti’s high-cheekboned features really well and is quite beautiful, though I do think it’s a little odd that she wasn’t sculpted with her vampire fangs showing since the fangs are a big part of the Shokoti look in my mind.
I also like that they added some extra trimming and piping on her outfit to jump up the detail to MOTUC levels nicely.
The lower torso piece suffers from the same issues as Octavia in that it’s pretty formless and looks a little too flat. The only real beef I have with this figure is that she has two grip hands, but nothing to hold. She could have used a spell-casting hand for sure.
Articulation
Shokoti has the standard MOTUC articulation minus the ab crunch. The lower torso may not look great, but it allows for full movement. Her ankles are probably the loosest of any MOTUC figure I have.
The paint is pretty standard, clean and sharp with nothing flashy except that the boots have an interesting gloss finish.
The Darkling has a subtle airbrushing that brings out the detail and some gross gloss red inside his mouth.
Shokoti is the main villain from one of my favorite episodes of the original He-Man series, so I was really looking forward to this one.
A few quibbles aside, she does not disappoint.
