It’s time. Time to dig up the past and take a look at figure had no business getting released. Not made, the character in this costume deserves to get made, but this figure did not need to be released. Poor First Appearance Namor, he just didn’t cut the mustard.
I’ve reviewed Namor a couple of times on the Fwoosh, the first Toy Biz version and of course the recent Walgreens version. And with a new version on the way, it was time to tackle the Ronan Series version.
I’ll be honest, I have no idea who sculpted this figure, and it doesn’t matter. While it’s easy to hate on the figure for the sculpt, as every collector was expecting an update of the Toy Biz version just with the green scaly underpants, we got a First Appearance figure. And as a first appearance figure, trying to capture the 1939 Bill Everett look, it excels. This version of Namor is spot to that first appearance.
The articulation leaves a lot to be desired, even as a first appearance figure I was expecting more, like double jointed knees and elbows, thigh swivels and bicep swivels. Instead the figure utilises a number of ball a socket knees and elbows, no bicep or thigh swivels. It’s just kind of disappointing. The ab-cruch is ok. Same with the neck joint.
I don’t really recommend this figure for most people. You’ve really got to want a First Appearance Namor to pick him up. But if that’s what you want, then you can get him on:
