After the bad guys are carted away following your massive backyard brawl, things probably go back to normal in your collection. But what if those bad guys left un-detonated plastic ordinance behind? Better call in the EOD.
Madelman likes to cover lots of bases when it comes to their offerings, which is one of the reasons I spend stupid amounts of money on them. Sure, there’s the quality cloth goods, but it’s the variance of those cloth goods that make the line so much fun to look at.
And they don’t get much more specific than this Bomb Squad set. Included in this set are the EOD Specialist, the defusal robot, and the random bad guy — you can tell he’s a bad guy because he’s wearing a corduroy jacket and a bunch of accessories in the middle of summer.
Among those, there are some pieces that carry over from other figures, like the secret agent briefcase, the MP5 and 2-way radio, but the biggest and coolest has to be the robot.
It looks a bit like one that Proytecsa builds for the Spanish Police, and while it might be not based on a specific model, it does have some nice realistic details. The front two wheels pivot on a “V” suspension, the camera can turn and pivot, the claw can open, and the arm is spring loaded, operated by the small tab in the back. Also very important, there is a hand-held remote with some nice detailing. The EOD specialist also has a small tool case and a blast shield, similar to the SWAT guys. Naturally, there is also a bomb — of the military ordinance variety — for the robot to grasp.
The EOD uniform is very cool as well. He has a padded suit, consisting of fireman-style trousers and a jacket, and a soft plastic flak vest. The helmet has an air tube and flip-visor, and there are also shin guards that slide into the front of the pants.
I’ve talked about the articulation and size of the Madelman figures several times before, but think basic, traditional 12-inch figure articulation at about 1:10 scale, or about 6.5 to 7 inches tall.
And getting a generic bad guy is never a bad thing. His jacket and hat are nice touches, and giving him a NECA AKM definitely helps that image.
All in all, another fantastic set of figures you’re likely never to see in the U.S. But, hey, who cares about cops and EOD figures when you can buy Captain America with a wolf head, right?
