Super7: The Misfits ReAction Anthology

Too much Horror Business! Actually, after last week, it seems we have just the right amount of Horror Business.

I collect a lot of stuff. Probably too much stuff. Some of that stuff isn’t generally in-line with what we typically serve up as content here, but that doesn’t take anything away or change my love for the stuff that I add to the collection. Unless you have been living under a rock for the last several years, you should have a least a passing knowledge of the ReAction line from Super7. They have gotten pretty expansive with this execution in terms of depth and variety of the properties that fall under that banner, and all in a style that pulls those nostalgia strings just so. Last week, they accomplished something really cool for fans of the seminal rock group the Misfits.

I love the Misfits, at least the Misfits that are most commonly referred to as the Misfits. That is, with Glenn Danzig leading the group. Over the past couple of years, Super7 has been celebrating their records/singles/collections via that classic line-up with ReAction style tribute figures. The Misfits’ iconic mascot, the Fiend, has been created in their retro-styled 3.75” inch line, and has been released with variations that take their cues from the original album art. To top it off, all of the figures have been released on beautiful cards with the actual album art included. For a guy who does not typically collect 1:18 figures, or keep anything carded, this is the perfect storm to get me to move out of my norms.

Super7 has been working tirelessly through the release line-up, and they announced that their current project came to a close with the “Legacy of Brutality” colored vinyl tribute release last week. All in all, they have captured 14 releases, plus their red and black icon Fiends, a Remco tribute figure, and even a few releases of bass player Jerry Only, so I have more Misfits-related toys than I ever thought possible. To add to that, it makes for a collection where I have two of every release (I have kept one of each of them carded), and it is one of the most dynamic and conversational part of my collection room. For any Misfits fan, this line has been a real treat.

I get it, this is probably a little more niche and “inside” than a lot of lines I collect, but I have had a really fun time putting this all together. If I was forced to pick a favorite based on execution alone, I would probably have to go with Bullet, but my favorite record (Walk Among Us) got a great treatment with three different versions (purple, pink, and green) to match the variations on the album covers from release to release. I know there was an Earth A.D. card variation that was released, so I still have track that one down (I thought I had both of them until I put them up for display), but as this tribute collection comes to a close, I wanted to celebrate the “sum” here, because I really love what has been done.

I know that Brian from Super7 eluded to a “next chapter” for Misfits stuff coming sooner or later, so I am excited to learn more about that. Even if there wasn’t though, I would be very satisfied with this little collections, and I am glad that S7 was able to see it all the way through. If this is your first time seeing these, you can still get some of them from the S7 web store, so go check them out, especially if you are a Misfits fan.
