Hasbro: Star Wars Black Series Ezra Bridger

The Star Wars: Rebels TV show is probably my favorite thing from the modern Star Wars era, so I was very much looking forward to getting another Ghost crew member with Ezra Bridger. Ezra is really the focus character of the show, it’s a little weird that he’s almost the last figure released and the final figure is a mix of highs and lows for me. Let’s take a look!

Ezra comes in the standard window box and includes his lightsaber with a removeable blade, and a removeable helmet.

Ezra’s unique, staple-gun-esque lightsaber is sharply detailed and has appropriate paint hits. It hangs nicely from a hook on the belt and looks correctly scaled when in blaster mode, but it’s tough to get him to hold in both hands due to the size of the handle.

The helmet is cast in a glossy plastic, perfect for Stormtrooper armor. It’s a helmet Ezra wore when he infiltrated an Imperial cadet. Sabine later gave it a wilder paint job, which is what we usually saw him wear when he wore a helmet in the first two seasons.

It’s not my preferred version of the helmet, but it looks great for what it is.

Ezra’s belt is removeable and if you take it off, it’s a little closer to his appearance in the first season episodes.

The costume is incredibly detailed and has some beautiful textures and convincing clothing folds. I believe the belt is actually season 2 gear, so it would be better if he had his scar from Fire Across the Galaxy to complete the season 2 look.

The face sculpture is a good translation of Ezra’s animated design and Ezra does have one of the tougher designs to translate as he has fairly exaggerated features.

The paint is okay. I like the solid colors across the costume though I would have liked a paint wash for details, but the face is very glossy and the eyes are a little buggy for my taste.

The articulation is probably the weakest point for me. First of all, the hips were stuck and I ended up breaking the figure. Once I got a replacement, they were also frozen stuck, so I loosened them up with hot water.

The hips are the dreaded Y-joint, but with a twist. The piece that attaches into the lower torso hinges up and down. This allows the Y-hips to work a little better than they normally do and get Ezra into a sitting position.

Ezra has the following articulation:

  • Ball and socket head, neck, hips, and mid-torso
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, and feet
  • Swivel thighs
  • Double-hinged knees

The elbow has a nice range of motion, but the ball and socket torso doesn’t have a lot of forward movement. The feet also don’t have a lot of forward movement.

Overall, this figure is very good, but it’s tough to shake the bad feelings I have from the original broken figure and posing the legs is just kind of irritating with this hip design. All that said, Ezra looks fantastic with rest of the Ghost crew. I’m still looking forward to Zeb, I just hope they don’t monkey with his articulation too much.
