Hasbro: Marvel Legends Avengers: Endgame Living Laser Review

Marvel Legends
Living Laser

We are continuing our look at the Avengers: Endgame Marvel Legends wave with The Living Laser. I have to admit, Mr. Laser is not a guy I have a ton of fond memories of, but he appealed to me on a design level as it’s a striking looking figure. Let’s take a look at the The Living Laser!

Living laser comes on the standard Marvel Legends card with some epic laser action artwork on the sides and back. He comes with two lightning effects and the Torso piece for the Thanos build-a-figure.

The lightning effects are familiar, I believe they are from Ragnarok Thor among others, and though they are very soft, they are useful and can be wrapped around the figure in a variety of ways.

Thanos’ torso is a little troubling because I can now see clearly that much of the metallic armor he wears is finished with colored plastic rather than metallic paint. The sculpt looks good, but the paint is probably not going to work for me on this figure.

The sculpt appears to be based on the Spider-Man 2099 body, so he has those little spikey things on his forearms. I didn’t see any reference that showed forearm spikes for the character, so that did strike me as odd, though I have to admit I have not read all his modern appearances.

That said, I think the figure otherwise does a great job matching the modern design and that base body does have a cool sculpt. He’s mostly cast in translucent purple plastic, which I think is half the appeal of this guy to me, and he has white paint which is meant to indicate where the character is glowing hottest. Looking at him more, I think they probably should have applied a little white spray to the lat hinge area as well because they can look oddly blank at certain angles.

The head is separate piece and has a nice, solid, armor feel to it with a couple of strikingly shiny metallic purple colors. The white airbrush on the body transitions nicely to the lightning bolts on the arms.

I think a couple more bolts on the mid-torso would have been cool, but I also like the way that the accessories work in tandem with the paint to create the energy effect.

The articulation is Marvel Legends standard and he moves very well, the only exception from the norm is that the head/cowl piece doesn’t want to move much. You can get some side to side, but if you move it too much it looks awkward.

Overall, I liked this figure a lot more than I was expecting. The laser effects are fun to mess with and the translucent purple is very striking. I had a ton of fun messing around with lighting and shooting this guy.

The only real downside is I’ve had the theme to The Living Daylights stuck in my head all day.
