This may come as no surprise to a lot of you, but I was completely blown away by the McFarlane Toys Fortnite Cuddle Team Leader. Mainly because it was McFarlane Toys.
This is NOT where I give anyone who buys a lot of Todd toys a hard time. More power to you, do what you love and let no one stand in your way. For me, I enjoy articulation, usually of the super variety, mixed in with my nice paints and enjoyable sculpts. Therefore I don’t usually pick up a lot of McFarlane stuff, whose fare usually ticks off at least two of those essentials.
Until now.
The whole line, including Skull Trooper, Black Knight, and Raptor, are all amazing, but CTL (I’m told by the kids that this is acceptable) is just so damn eye-catching. The fur sculpt, the massive head, the Rainbow Smash pickaxe, the paint wash for depth and precision eye colors. Most of all, the mobility. We were all a little leary of the initial prototype pics which showed the amount of articulation, but all of us sighed a quiet “But….it’s McFarlane Toys.”
Then the figure released. There was much delight around the collecting circles.
And I’ll say it again, and keep saying it throughout the life of this line: I DO NOT CARE A LICK ABOUT FORTNITE. Toys gotta be good to make me care about something that is neither on my radar nor nostalgia driven. I mean, good. And these figures look great, move great, and are durable, another aspect that I haven’t had a lot of luck with from this company in the past.
Long story short: It’s good.
