McFarlane Toys: Fortnite Cuddle Team Leader Video Review and Quick Pics

When McFarlane Toys debuted promotional images of their Fortnite line I thought “Ooo, interesting, I wonder if it will move as much as those joints appear to allow it to move?” That’s giving myself too much credit, actually. It was probably more “Pretty. Must try. Food time?” But I’ll be damned if the company Todd built didn’t knock Cuddle Team Leader out of the park. I mean, completely and utterly off the property held by the owners of (insert favorite baseball team here)!

And this is coming from someone with a sordid history with McFarlane Toys, having more broken pieces than intact roaming around the toy room. I also absolutely do not care about Fortnite. My son and his friends play it but it never caught my interest. So that was two strikes against this line right off the bat. The thing it had going for it with me was an excellent looking articulation scheme. And in the end, hit me with some curiosity and I’ll give your toy line a try.

Long story short, McFarlane got me to buy an action figure of a pink teddy bear looking character from a property I know nothing about. And I love it.

I. Love. It.

I know, it’s insane to say outloud. Or type, even. McFarlane Toys gave us a beautifully sculpted, nicely painted, SUPER-ARTICULATED, DURABLE action figure. It’s blowing my mind how good this thing really is. It’s deceptively agile. Sure, we all saw most of the articulation in the initial shots, but to actually feel it and see the range? Hand candy. Sweet, delicious hand candy. I don’t even care if it’s 7-inch scale, I will make room for toys this good.

Sure, the hips run into the inner workings of the lower torso a bit and the head pops off if you pass the limits of the impressive neck movement. Yeah, the ankles could use a little more refining, having good movement but requiring a bit of work to implement it. But those are barely worth mentioning given just how much of a leap forward this is in the “action” figure department for the company. It’s as if your goldfish suddenly jumped out of the bowl and started dancing. It won’t do any high kicks but you won’t care, seeing a fish breathe air and stay in step with (insert your favorite musical genre here) is just too amazing a sight.

So no matter what you think of the game or Todd or pink bears, if you’re a fan of action figures do yourself a favor and pick up a Fortnite figure. Like I said, I’m not a fan of the franchise but there I was this morning, waiting outside my GameStop for it to open because I saw they received a Skull Trooper.

What….what have I become?
