Four Horsemen Studios: Mythic Legions Advent of Decay Orc Legion Builder 2

The Orcs are another one of my personal favorite Mythic Legions factions, but I foolishly passed on the original Orc army builder and have regretted it ever since. I made sure not to make the same mistake twice and picked up the Advent of Decay Orc Legion Builder figure. Let’s take a look!

The Orc Legion Builder comes in the standard Mythic Legions resealable packaging and comes with quite a few accessories including a spear, a long sword, an axe, removeable hair piece for the helmet, a weapons holding strap, removeable shoulder armor, and three wing connector pieces.

The sword, axe and spear should be very familiar to Mythic Legions collectors as they were the standard weapons from the first wave onward. All three are painted silver with a bit of a yellowish patina over them. It’s an interesting effect, not quite rusty, but not clean either. Star Wars nerd that I am, it reminded my of the yellow dust from the Spice Mines of Kessel.

The weapons, for my taste are a mixed bag. They are really big for the size of the figure and I’ve got sooooo many of these particular weapons, they aren’t terribly exciting. On the other hand, I really like the look of the high silver finish with yellow wash and the weapons do take on somewhat of a new life in the hands of a different figure.

The back piece plugs in securely. This is another figure that I think would be fun to see with bat wings.

The sculpt is very nice, though I have some reservations. I absolutely love the style of the boots, hip armor, shoulder pad, helmet, and right arm armor. It’s got a great, sharp (like literally sharp, these figures can hurt your fingers!) jagged, perfectly orc like feel. I’m less in love with the bare lower torso and armored upper torso. It’s also a great looking sculpt, but I feel like that upper torso armor piece doesn’t quite jibe with the rest of the armor.

In a weird way, it kind of makes me thing of a sports bra more than armor. That sports bra look is mitigated quite a bit with the shoulder armor and the strap, so it’s not a big problem for me, but it’s one of the first re-use items I’ve seen in this line that doesn’t work perfectly for me.

The head sculpt is great. I don’t think I realized how three dimensional the teeth were for this figure until I had it in hand, I had originally thought that they sat flush against the face, but they really stick out nicely. I also like how the design of the helmet matches with the original orc helmets.

Articulation is the Mythic Legion standard though since there is a bit of a but cheek sculpted on the back of the leg, the swivel at the hip doesn’t have quite the range of motion of other hip swivels. I was also having a harder time than usual balancing this figure. The ankle joints aren’t very smooth and I think they have detetents that want to be in specific positions that don’t always line up with where I wanted them to rest.

The paint is simple, but good. The skin has a slight shading to it and the armor is a nice gun metal gray. I have a lot more nitpicks on this figure than I usually do with Mythic Legions, but overall it’s still a really good figure and I love the way she looks added into my Orc army and I’m glad I was able to pick another one up from Storehorsemen yesterday.
