Hasbro: Marvel Legends Walmart Exclusive Winter Soldier

Winter Soldier is the half of a Walmart 2-unit release from Captain America: Civil War. Yes, 2-unit, not 2-pack. Which so many of you pointed out. Thank you.

So, on to the apology. I called the Falcon / Winter Soldier 2-unit Walmart exclusive release a 2-pack in the Falcon review (here). It is not. It is not two figures released in the same package. They are not taped together, stuck together, you do not have to buy them both. They are two separate units that can be purchased individually of each other. Two units, not one. But I bet if they could be one, they would be. We even reported it was a 2-unit release and not a 2-pack here.

Bucky is almost a straight rerelease of the earlier Winter Soldier from the Captain America: Winter Soldier Mandroid Series (we did a review here), he just has a new chest and head. That’s it. So this will be a short review since I will be reviewing a chest and a head.

I want to like the new chest. But I don’t. It looks amazing; it is really well-sculpted, but I wish all the chest straps had been sculpted separately, so you could remove them. And then make G.I. Joes. Seriously, this is almost the perfect base for a G.I. Joe custom. It’s way tall, but the legs could easily be swapped out, which is is good since I’m not a fan of the boots. If you really want to talk customs, with a different head this could easily be Major Bludd. Well, except the arms are reversed, but the colors and the shiny black of the chest straps are, like, right on. But yeah, if the chest straps were removable that chest would be generic G.I. Joe custom fodder. You’d have to figure something out with the metal arm.

The head is the other new part of this figure and it is fantastic! It looks way better than the original Winter Soldier release; it actually looks like the actor Sebastian Stan, and that opens a lot of opportunity for customs. I don’t have any in mind, but I’m certain there are possibilities. The head sculpt is part of the ongoing improvements that we’ve been seeing from Hasbro in their Marvel Cinematic Marvel Universe action figures where the figures actually look like the actors they are supposed to represent. Well done.

The legs, are the same. Which is a shame. I do not like the legs on this figure. They are way too long, the boots have no calf swivel, and the feet have an incredibly limited range of motion. And they are big. Yeah, I know they are boots, but they are really square and clunky.

The hands could use an upgrade as well. They look cool but the knife and gun far out constantly. All the time. I looked at them funny and they fell out. Also, it would be great to have some fists for Bucky because he punches — a lot. Gun hands limit recreating punching scenes.

While I’m harping on the negatives, I do like this figure, it is a good representation of Winter Soldier and fits with the rest of Marvel Legends Marvel Cinematic Universe figures. For now, I’ll have to live with him as the only version of this character. Until Bandai decides to make their S.H. Figuarts. Until then, pick up the Marvel Legend here:
